Lot 385

A 19th century Japanese watercolour on silk scroll painting depicting early Edo period Samurai armour, displayed upon a pedestal, the sword with unusual tiger fur plume, signed and with red seals, with a black and gold floral silk border, the wooden scroll with black and gilt lacquered terminals, the watercolour 37½ x 17in. (95.25 x 43.2cm.).*Condition: Some flaking to paint across the image, most notably to the more heavily applied black and gilt colours. Small 1.5in. split to gold silk ground below watercolour and some foxing and dirty marks and light creasing to the silk throughout. Two large water stain marks and some fading to the broad pale green silk border at the top and one of the gold silk straps is missing from the top. Minor losses to edge of silk at joint with wooden scroll rod and flaking from lacquer at one end of wooden scroll rod.

An extremely rare white Steiff 35PB rod joint bear 1904, With shaggy white mohair, black boot button eyes, pronounced muzzle, extremely rare original gutta percha nose, pink stitched mouth, swivel head with seam from ear to ear across top of head, rod-jointed elongated limbs, excellently replaced felt pads, thick wool five claws, hump and firm stuffing —21in. (53.5cm.) high (neat repair to right wrist, small patch to tip of right toe and slight general wear and thinning) — the Steiff 35PB and 28PB are the earliest bear available to buy, made in 1904, the second model after the original 55PB. The 35 is the height in centimetres in a seated position and the P is for plush and the B is for beweglich (jointed). The white example is much scarcer than the golden bear and they are pre the name Teddy, so just called bears. PLEASE NOTE THIS BEAR HAS AN ADDITIONAL 5% IMPORT VAT TO BE PAID ON THE HAMMER PRICE

(48.5cm.) high (about 10% of the plush has been rewoven, on cheeks, chest, lower front, left arm, left of back, hump, left back of head, back of both ears, hole in back of right heel, small patched hole in tip of muzzle and slight repair to pads) the Steiff 35PB and 28PB are the earliest bear available to buy, made in 1904, the second model after the original 55PB. The 35 is the height in centimetres in a seated position and the P is for plush and the B is for beweglich (jointed). These bear are pre the name Teddy, so just called bears. A 1984 Dutton V8 hot rod inspired kit car, registration number Q73 JDV, black. Our vendor has taken inspiration from the 1920s and 30s American hot rods to create his interpretation of a traditional T-Bucket style car. The Dutton was totally remodelled and rebuilt in 2017, with a T-Bucket style body with louvred bonnet and cycle wings front and rear. The business like no frills interior has an aluminium dashboard and centre console, red upholstery and a steel roll hoop. Power is supplied by a Rover SD1 V8 driving thought a five speed manual gearbox. Since completing the build our engineer vendor has enjoyed using the car to attend local classic car events where it has been admired.
