Richard Cockle Lucas, British, 1800-1883, two wax portrait reliefs, dated 1852 and 1858, one of Reverend Canon Carus, inscribed The Rev. Canon Carus / Winton 1852, signed RC Lucas, the portrait - 16cm high, 32.7 x 26.8cm overall; the other of Reverend C.A. Moore, inscribed The Rev CA Moore / Romsey 1858, signed RC Lucas, the portrait - 16cm high, 32.5 x 26.9cm overall, both in later glazed ebonised frames with velvet mounts; together with a framed letter from Richard Cockle Lucas to Reverend Moore (3)Provenance: The wax portraits were purchased from Joanna Barnes Fine Arts, London, in 1995 and 1996 respectively. The Property of the Late Reverend John Watson. Footnotes: Note: Richard Cockle Lucas, 1800-1883, is predominately known as a sculptor in wax and ivory, but he also worked in glass, marble and bronze, as well as being a painter. He began his career as a sculptor as an apprentice to his uncle, who worked as a cutler in Winchester, carving knife handles. He joined the Royal Academy Schools in 1828 and studied under Richard Westmacott. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1829 and 1859 and showed ivory carvings and imitation bronzes at the Great Exhibition in 1851.

A Royal Winton (Grimwades) Deco period oval twin handled dish in mottled red and floral design, a similar Royal Winton (Grimwades) Deco designed bowl with similar design of flowers and red background. Together with a 19th century Staffordshire fogure of a couple, with bird in hand of lady and banjo in mans. Further Details: Some paint flaking/loss to Staffordshire figure, small chip to edge of Winton bowl, some crazing, scratching and loss to gilding to parts of both Winton pieces.

Punjab 1848-49, 2 clasps, Chilianwala, Goojerat (Farrier J. Yeomans. 3rd. Troop. 2nd. Bde. H.Arty.) nearly very fine £300-£400 --- John Yeomans was born near Margate, Kent, around 1823. A butcher, he attested at Westminster for the Army of the Honourable East India Company on 16 October 1845, leaving for India aboard the Royal Alice not long thereafter. Appointed Farrier in the 3/2nd Bengal Horse Artillery, Yeomans witnessed extensive action during the Punjab Campaign, including the lesser-known engagement at Sadalapur on 3 December 1848. At Chilianwala, casualties amongst the Horse Artillery numbered 50 men, whilst disease and accidents involving heavy limbers and hostile terrain accounted for many more. Discharged by purchase on 30 August 1850, Yeomans returned to England and set up home with a young wife in Winchester. The couple later worked as publicans of the Winton Ale House located at 60, Middlebrook Street, before Yeomans died of hepatitis exhaustion on 5 May 1877. Sold with copied research.
