1969 original Jak Rugby Framed Cartoon: Social history as well as sporting, the prolific Fleet Street cartoonist 'Jak's' take on the anti-apartheid-hit Springboks' tour of 1969-70, as a protestor, rather than the ball, is about to be thrown into a lineout. Topically, to the reverse, along with printing instructions on this original work, is stuck the report on Oxford University's shock win over S Africa at Twickenham, Nov 1969. Excellent
Scarce 1925-26 Wisden Rugby Football Almanack: Third & last in of a run of just three seasons. All contents whole and good, magic taped to worn flaky spine to retain covers, but a splendid resource, very much of its time, detailed, interesting, sought-after and very collectable. F/G, VG internally, certainly collectable
Heineken European Cup Final Rugby Programmes (5): Fine selection from the tournament that grew and grew…. First & second finals, Cardiff v Toulouse & Brive v Leicester (both Cardiff), 1996 & 97; Perpignan v Toulouse (Dublin) 2003; Munster v Toulouse (Cardiff) 2008; and Clermont Auvergne v Toulon (Twickenham) 2015. Exc
1903-4 Yorkshire Rugby League Cap: Well-worn but wonderful, maroon honours cap with gold braid, tassel, white rose and red cross with lions to front panel and 1903-4 to peak, some splitting in a front fold but whole o/wise and VG internally, where the Halifax makers label and the name Ward can be found. Probably this is Robert Ward, who made his Leeds debut three years earlier at stand-off. Clearly cherished (and worn a lot) by the owner. A lovely evocative survivor 120 years on
Match worn White 1980s France Rugby Jersey No. 5 Exchanged with Ireland's Donal Lenihan: White with blue embroidered cloth cockerel & FFR badge, No. 5 to reverse, Le Coq Sportif make with logos to centre, rear collar & long sleeves, with the feet and head of Le Coq breaking the triangle. This meant it was misidentified as a 1984 jersey in a previous description. Donated to the major Irish collector/vendor by Lenihan. A terrific example, VG
Magnificent, Rare 1906 S Africa Rugby Book, E J L Platnauer's 'Souvenir of the Springboks 1906-7': Lovely, comprehensive, so hard-to-obtain, beautifully presented volume covering the Springboks UK tour 1906-7 in its immediate aftermath. Game by game reports and super-sharp plates of the side and their opponents and action from the successful first northern trek. 238 pp, hard green decorative Springbok cover, landscape style. A few inevitable marks but generally VG, great chance
