A Vincennes porcelain bleu-lapis ground cup and saucer (gobelet à la reine et soucoupe), the porcelain circa 1752-53, blue interlaced L marks to both, incised c to cup and f to saucer, the blue ground contemporary, the bird and gilt decoration later, the cup reserved with a shaped panel with a vignette of two birds by shrubs within an elaborate gilt cartouche, the ground with gilt marbling, the centre of the saucer similarly decorated with birds enclosed by a blue-ground border with similar marbling, gilt dentil borders, the cup 7.8cm diameter, 7.5cm high; the saucer 15cm diameter (2)Footnotes: Note: For a gobelet à la reine with a similar marbled bleu lapis ground in the Belvedere Collection, see Joanna Gwilt, Vincennes and Early Sèvres Porcelain, London, 2014, p. 164.Condition Report: There is a glazed firing crack to the base of the handle terminal, which probably explains why the decoration of this piece was not completed by the factory at the time (the blue ground appears to date to this period, but the other decoration looks later). There is some ‘sanding’ to the footrim of the cup, suggestive of later decoration. Please see additional images for reference here: https://we.tl/t-VjKg1WlTmk

A gilt-metal-mounted Sèvres porcelain jewelled oviform teapot and cover, the soft-paste porcelain 18th century, the decoration 19th century, gilt spurious Sèvres interlaced L mark and spurious gilder’s mark 2000 for Henri-François Vincent, applied with fine jewelled decoration, the centre of the pot with a foliate Vitruvian scroll band and further narrow bands of husks and foliate ornament above and below, the cover with a similar Vitruvian scroll band below a gilt fruit finial, the handle with a clasp mount, 11cm high Footnotes: Note: Before scholars re-evaluated decoration of this type, a Sèvres white teapot of similar form with related jewelled decoration of later date was sold in the Elizabeth Parke Firestone Collection sale at Christie’s, New York, on the 21-22nd March 1991, lot 286, as having 18th century decoration. After the emergence of new information, the same teapot was subsequently sold by Christie’s, New York, on 18 November 1999, lot 224. For a discussion of this decoration see Aileen Dawson, French Porcelain, A Catalogue of the Collection of the British Museum, London, 1994, pp. 168-169.Condition Report: There is some slight chipping to the tip of the spout. In addition there are some minute losses to the applied enamels – these are extremely minor and only visible / noticeable under scrutiny. Otherwise, overall, this teapot is bright and fresh in appearance.
A Sèvres porcelain soup plate from the Royal Hunting Service made for King Louis Philippe, 1838, printed blue crowned LP cypher mark, iron-red Château Fontainebleau mark, gilt w and gilt y marks, the border printed with animals and birds among scrolling foliage divided by panels with trophies and LP cyphers, the centre with a gilt medallion, 24.1 cm diameter Footnotes: Note: This soup plate is from the Hunting Service made for the château at Fontainebleau. The king ordered the service in 1836, and this soup plate must have been part of the first delivery to the château, made in 1839. Further deliveries took place in the 1840s. An 1847 soup plate is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (accession no. 37.175.1). Condition Report: This plate appears to be in good condition. A couple of scratches are visible to the white ground of the well, as well as some heavier dirt stains to the underside. Please find additional images for reference here: https://we.tl/t-ONrhLYeFUn
A Sèvres porcelain ‘fond Taillandier’ cup and saucer, c.1795, manganese Sevres marks to both, '….' marks probably for Mlle Baudouin, musical note marks for Cornailles, the cup incised 42, the saucer 46, the ground of each piece reserved with a panel painted with pink roses within a broad gilt-band cartouche, the cup 7.9cm diameter, the saucer 13.1cm diameter (2) Footnotes: Note: Antoine-Toussaint Cornailles was a painter of flowers and a gilder at Sèvres from 1755 to 1800. A four-dot mark was used by Pierre-Théodore Buteux, who was a gilder and painter of blue edgings, but he stopped being active at Sèvres in 1780, so this piece was presumably decorated by Marie-Félicité Baudouin, a painter of flowers and patterns at Sèvres from 1786 to 1800, who is thought to have used a similar mark, see David Peters, Sèvres Plates and Services of the 18th Century, Little Berkhamsted, 2005, Vol. I, p. 19. Condition Report: There is some slight wear to gilt rim of the cup. The slight pitting to the glaze on the underside of the saucer dates from the time of manufacture. A group of Sèvres and Sèvres style porcelain, 18th-19th centuries, comprising: two Sèvres porcelain later decorated blue-ground cups and a Sèvres porcelain later decorated blue-ground saucer, the porcelain 18th century, interlaced L marks, incised numerals to cups, the cups reserved with panels of landscape vignettes with sheep, a ram, and a basket of flowers, within elaborate gilt cartouches, the interior of one with an elaborate gilt border, the interior of the other with a similar vignette, the saucer similarly decorated, the cups 8.3cm diameter; the saucer 13.1cm diameter; together with a Sèvres porcelain later decorated bleu céleste pointillé-ground teacup and a saucer, the porcelain saucer 18th century, the cup Sèvres style and 19th century, the cup with blue spurious interlaced L mark enclosing date letter P for 1768 and spurious painter’s K mark for Charles-Nicolas Dodin, the saucer with spurious interlaced L mark enclosing date letter cc for 1780 and painter's mark for Guillaume Noël, the ground of the cup reserved with a white band centred by a garland, widening at the front to an oval panel enclosing a putto, the centre of the saucer with a dove and a quiver, within concentric garlands and bleu celeste bands with pointille ornament, against the bleu céleste pointillé ground with laurel garlands, the cup 8.4cm diameter; the saucer 12.2cm diameter; and a pair of gilt-metal-mounted Sèvres style porcelain blue-ground small oviform vases, 19th century, spurious interlaced L marks enclosing fleur de lys and SEVRES marks, the mounts on the necks with pendant garlands, on gilt-metal Louis XVI-style stepped feet, 10.1cm high overall (7) Footnotes: Note: The bleu céleste pointillé-ground teacup and saucer is made in the style of the 1770 service purchased by the comtesse du Barry (Madame du Barry’, the last mistress of King Louis XV of France), for use at the Château Louveciennes, the château given to her by the king in 1769, or the very similar service made for Sir Penistone Lamb, later Lord Melbourne and later (1781) Viscount Melbourne of Kilmore. For a discussion of these almost identical 18th century services, see David Peters, Sèvres Plates and Services of the 18th Century, Little Berkhamsted, 2005, Vol. II, no. 70-5, pp. 435-436, and 71-2, pp. 447-448. A bottle-cooler from the du Barry service was sold in the Augustus Collection sale at Christie’s, New York, on 7th October 2022, lot 48. Condition Report: Overall, the condition of these three pieces appears to be good, with the exception that there are some areas of slight wear to the gilt rim of one cup (the one with the gilt border on the interior). The same cup has a firing fault to the handle which dates from the time of manufacture. A slight blue mark to the interior also dates from the time of manufacture, and these faults probably explain why the decoration of the cup was not completed by the factory at the time, and it was decorated at a later date elsewhere. Similarly, there is a slight blue smudge to the interior of the other cup and a blue mark on the handle – both faults which date to the time of manufacture. A Herend porcelain 'Cornflower Blue Garland' (PBG) part dinner and coffee service, second half 20th century, blue printed marks, gilt-heightened, comprising: eleven dinner plates, thirteen soup plates, twelve cake plates, eighteen dessert bowls, three oval dishes, two sauce boats, two leaf-shaped dishes, three pin dishes, two oblong dishes, a milk jug, a sugar bowl and cover with flower finial, and twelve coffee cups with associated saucers (lot) Footnotes: Note: The pattern of cornflowers found on this service is inspired by a widely copied Sèvres design for a comprehensive dinner and dessert service purchased by Queen Marie-Antoinette of France in 1782, possibly a principal service of a lesser royal château. Apparently, cornflowers were Marie-Antoinette's favourite flower. A dinner plate from this service was sold at Christie's, British and Continental Ceramics, 14 July 2006, lot 68. For a discussion of the Marie-Antoinette service see David Peters, Sevres Plates and Services of the 18th Century (Little Berkhamsted, 2005), Vol. III, pps. 645-646. Condition Report: This service is smart and presents well, but is in need of a good clean, several pieces are quite dirty and greasy. Generally the decoration is bright and colourful, however the dinner plates have some wear to the flowers in the well, and also light scratches to the porcelain, as expected from use. Some pieces have condition issues, detailed as follows: one leaf-shaped dish has a loss to the tip and rim, one dessert bowl has a chip to the rim, one cake plate has a repaired crack through the middle, one soup bowl has a chip to the underside rim. Please see additional images for reference here: https://we.tl/t-mHwaC23tvt
A Sèvres style porcelain plate (‘assiette unie’) of Madame du Barry type, the porcelain possibly 18th century, the decoration 19th century, the blue marks of interlaced L mark enclosing date letter T for 1772 and painter's mark for Jean-Jacque Pierre Le Jeune (possibly spurious), the centre decorated with a gilt D and floral B monogram (probably spurious), the border with three baskets of flowers divided by three oval cartouches with putti in clouds flanked by garlands, against a dark-blue ground within a gilt dentil border, 24.4cm wideFootnotes: Note: This plate is made in the style of a service commissioned by King Louis XV of France for his last mistress, the comtesse du Barry, in the same year as a service was made for the Queen of Naples which was almost identical except for the central initials CL. It seems that production of the du Barry service was discontinued, with only a very small number of pieces completed, and the remaining pieces were put in storage and subsequently decorated at various stages. This plate belongs to a group of pieces which have entirely 19th century decoration. For a discussion of this unfinished service, see David Peters, Sèvres Plates and Services of the 18th Century, Little Berkhamsted, 2005, Vol. II, no. 73-8 (the entry for the Queen of Naples service), pp. 497-498. Various known pieces, including a group of 19th century pieces, are listed on p. 498.Condition Report: There are some areas of wear to the gilt dentil border at the rim.

Dezember 2009, lot 299Auktion Sotheby's Paris, Mme.
