Together with his father`s medals, a First War Pair and Meritorious Service Medal, to 17 SJT. A.E. SOBEY. R.A.M.C. on the pair and 464011 SJT A.E. SOBEY R.A.M.C. complete with box of issue. (Parcel) Captain Edward George Sobey served with the Middlesex Regiment in Korea. Lt. Sobey led 12 Platoon against a Company of the enemy from the Naktong River Bridge Head and led further bayonet assaults on heavily fortified hill top positions.
A brass fireman`s helmet, leather backed brass chin-scales with rose bosses, peak and neck guard with turned rims, raised comb embossed witha dragon to either side and decorated with celtic motifs, the helmet plate formed from crossed axes and a flaming torch intertwinned with a hose, leather liner, the neck guard stamped 14.
A six-shot .32 rimfire side hammer revolver by Allen & Wheelock, 4inch plated, sighted barrel stamped on the left side ALLEN & WHEELOCK. WORCESTER. MS. U.S, ALLEN`S PATS. SEPT 7. NOV. 9. 1858 serial numbered 468 to the underside of the barrel, plated cylinder with hunting scene, plated frame, sheath trigger, two-piece wood grips.
A very good cased breech loading percussion target pistol by Gastinne-Renette, 10inch sighted octagonal, signed, browned barrel, reduced and fluted at the mid-point, border and bouquet scroll engraved signed lock with traces of case-colour hardened finish, half stock with blued steel mounts, the spur trigger-guard engraved with a crest, case-colour hardened butt cap, contained in its blue felt lined, close fitted mahogany case, the lid with flush fitting brass escutcheon engraved with a crest, the inside of the lid with gilt maker`s stamp, complete with full set of commensurate accessories. Turn screw a replacement.
An interesting cased pair of flintlock duelling pistols by Durrs Egg, bearing oval gold escutcheons engraved with the Royal crest, 10inch sighted octagonal browned barrels, gold lined breeches inlaid with gold maker`s escutcheon and three fleur-de-lis also in gold, border and foliate engraved stepped locks signed D.EGG, half stocked with engraved steel mounts including spur trigger-guards, set triggers, oval gold escutcheons engraved with the Royal crest, original horn capped wood ramrods, contained in a brass bound oak case with assorted accessories including three-way powder flask with lacquered brass and copper body. For another cased pair of pistols, by Tatham & Egg, bearing similar escutcheon but incorporating a coronet see Sotheby`s 7th December 2001, Lot 151.
A Remington New Model Army six-shot percussion revolver to the United States Navy, 7.5inch sighted octagonal barrel stamped BEALS PATENT SEPT. 14 1858 MANUFACTURED BY REMINGTON`S ILION. N.Y., serial no. 103368 (?) on the underside of the barrel, the underside of the grip strap stamped U.S.N, two-piece ivory grips, together with a pair of walnut grips stamped C.C., contained in a later oak case with accessories.
An 1856 Pattern Pioneer`s sidearm, 57cm saw-backed blade stamped WILKINSON LONDON, regulation brass stirrup hilt with ribbed brass grip, together with a battlefield recovered Chassepot, a similar socket bayonet all lacking scabbards, and a 1907 Pattern bayonet with scabbard by Wilkinson.
Julius Hare, (1859-1932), Coastal landscape, Signed, Oil on board, 26.5 x 41cm Variously inscribed verso, to include that the chimney in the distance is "the entrance to Sir Edward Reed`s channel tunnel". Sir Edward James Reed, (1830-1906), was Chief Constructor of the Royal Navy and in the late 19th Century proposed a submerged floating tunnel across the English Channel.
