A c1887 Humber & Co., 'Dwarf Safety No 1' Safety Bicycle. A partly restored sprung fork bicycle, having the 24-inch front and 30-inch rear wheels rebuilt and fitted with new tyring, the bottom crank adjuster assembly having been rebuilt to a high standard with nickel-plated slotted cranks, 27-inch handlebars, and front brake mechanism similarly treated. To finish the restoration the block chain needs extra links, a saddle top, one handlebar grip and a rear mudguard.
An L. Fouenard Juvenile Tricycle Vélocipède. Working from Avenue de Sagur 3 in Paris, this rare machine has an original 30-inch wooden-spoked driving wheel, the fellowes with infestation damage, it retains its slotted cranks and wood-block pedals. The rear wheels also look original, with signs of original enamel. The frame has rusted, but appears sound and strong, a brass engraved name plate being attached to the saddle support. The 24-inch handlebars are period and retain dark stained grips. Although in need of some wood stabilisation, the only element lacking appears to be a missing brake cord and guiding wheel although it is not obvious which wheel/wheels were braked. The pan saddle has lost its fabric covering
AFC Sky Princess Child's Tricycle. A stylised and fully enclosed tricycle in an 'Airflow' style, of American manufacture, with its original red coachwork, some brightwork and an electric lamp (not in operation). Also, a 'Teddy' bicycle, being an all-enclosed device with adjustable saddle and collapsible handlebars. (2)
A c1870 Tricycle Vélocipède. In good, sound condition, the 36-inch, 16-spoke steering wheel has 7-inch slotted cranks and triangular pedals, the 31-inch rear wheels have 14-spokes and are fitted to a 28-inch axle. The saddle has been re-covered to a high standard. The handlebars possess later, but nicely formed, beechwood grips
A circa 1907 Rudge Whitworth Bicycle. A 21-inch lady's loop frame with a black enamel finish, gilt box lining. A very original machine with correct RW hubs and 28-inch rims and tyres, semi-upturned celluloid covered handlebars with inverted levers operating stirrup brakes, roller bell, single speed with one piece cranks, RW mudguards, split rubber pedals, nickel-plated fittings and a leather saddle, and saddle bag.
1926 Sunbeam Lady's Loop Frame Bicycle. With a frame number of 152128, this very original bicycle boasts a 20-inch black enamel frame, 26-inch wheels, roller lever operated stirrup brakes, two-speed bottom bracket, split rubber pedals, figured leather saddle and a padded black cover, front basket and Sunbeam decals.
A circa 1904 Lady's Dursley Pedersen. A size 'A' bicycle numbered 896?. Finished in green enamel with nickel-plated fork ends, 16-inch up-turned handlebars with inverted lever-operated stirrup brake and rear brake, celluloid grips, 26-inch Westwood rims and tyres, metal chain guard and a leather frame-fitted tool bag. The laced saddle has been rebuilt to original specification and Lucas double-ring bell and a nickel-plated 'Pathfinder' oil lamp is fitted.
A circa 1910 Dursley Pedersen 'Anti-Rust' Model. Painted dark green, it is a size 5 machine numbered 7312, and has a re-woven hammock saddle, original celluloid covered drop handlebars with inverted brake levers and original style grips, stainless steel 28-inch Westwwod rims, single-speed rear hub, nickel-plated cranks and chain wheel, Lucas front-mounted luggage rack, Lucas double-ring bell, and a similar period candle lamp. Offered with this machine is the bicycle's original front wheel and a Villiers Variable Gear hub and stainless Westwood rim. (3)
Daniel Rudge & Co., 'Rudge' 56-inch Ordinary. This machine has a tangent spoked (in the hairpin style) driving wheel, being created from a new rim using the original hub, the original hollow rim coming with the bicycle's sale. Other features include 26-inch nickel-plated hooped handlebars, with a lever-operated spoon brake, rat trap pedals, nickel-plated cranks with Rudge 1878 patent main bearings, 18-inch trailing wheel and a leather-covered pan saddle, correctly fitted to a nickel-plated support with a Rudge ovoid inscription. A highly useable machine. (2)
An Overman Wheel Co., 'Victoria' Lady's Bicycle. Dating from circa 1893, a good and original loop frame bicycle, enamelled black with nickel-plated 23-inch handlebars, cork grips, double link inch-pitch driving chain, single rod cranks with adjustable main bearing, correct style solid/cushion tyring on 26-inch deep set rims, lever-operated front plunger brake, fixed rear wheel gearing, fabric chain guard and skirt guard and an unusual tipping leather-padded saddle for ease of mounting. A later Riemann candle lamp and a Lucas double ring bell are fitted
A 1911 Sunbeam 'Golden' Roadster. A very original bicycle with a 26-inch frame number of 106252, with signs of its original gilt box lining, 28-inch wheels, roller lever-operated 'Sunbeam' patented brakes, leather saddle with a 'OO' Brooks badge on the rear, chain guard, steering lock and split rubber pedals. Offered with the machine are two celluloid handlebar inserts, the original caps replaced. A pair of front and rear oil-powered lamps and a Lucas bell are fitted.
A Hetchins Semi-lightweight Bicycle. Having a 23-inch frame with an indistinct number of H13151 on the rear fork end, enamelled green with gilt decoration, 28-inch Endrick rims with high pressure tyres fitted, 10-speed Derailleur gearing, 17-inch Cinelli drop handlebars, centre-pull calliper braking, front and rear carriers, saddle bag and a leather Brooks professional saddle.
A c1882 Coventry Machinists Co., 'Cheylesmore Club' Tricycle. An open-fronted, rear-steering tricycle numbered 3770. Now in sound, rideable condition, the double driver 48-inch wheels are newly-built, using similar adjustable spoking and bearing hubs, the latter being removeable to allow access through a narrow space. The 15-inch rear wheel has been quality-manufactured. Other features include a spoon brake on each wheel, stirrup handle steering, new long link chain and two spare chain links, an original rear rack and alternative leather saddle. (3)
A Pope Mfg Co., 'Columbia Model 38' Bicycle. Dating circa 1894, this blue-enamelled 24-inch frame would be ideal for sprinting and competition work. Originally a cushion-tyred bicycle, but now fitted with 28 x 1¾-inch pneumatics, but retaining its double-roller driving chain, petit competition leather saddle, semi-drop 18-inch handlebars with a Lucas LSD bell fitted, rubber grips and American style rat trap pedals.
A c1888 D. Rudge & Co., 'Bicyclette Racer'. A 20-inch frame numbered 50575, finished in a two-tone green enamel with a long saddle support, this quality bicycle, featuring 28-inch hollow rims and narrow section ¾-inch tyring and, as was usual with Rudge, numbered component parts. Further features include a leather saddle, block chain, nickel-plated handlebars with a crows- foot bell fitted, later Reimann candle lamp, original pedals with correct style but new rubbers fitted, foot rests and lever-operated plunger brake to the front wheel. The bicycle has its own stand. (2)
