Porcelain Figure of an Imperial German Officer on Horseback, a beautifully sculptured statuette of a German Infantry officer riding at full gallop on his horse with sword drawn. All formed into its porcelain base measuring 40cms in length and 13cms in width. The officer is wearing his 1910 tunic with all saddle equipment and pickelhaube. The only evidence of any possible damage is where the sword blade meets the hilt there is a slight discoloration in the porcelain indicating this may have been reaffixed, otherwise the statuette is fault free. Laying at the feet of the horse is a French cavalry helmet with the date ‘1914’ on the front of the base. The designer marked ‘T. Karner’ Professor Karner who originally worked for Rosenthal went on to be one of the most well known sculpture artists in the later years of Germany and was one of the major contributors of design work to the SS Allach Porcelain Factory during WWII. The height of the statue from the lower part of the base to the point of the pickelhaube is 33cm. A highly impressive statuette.
