Pietro Tonelli Italy - Mandolin for Display or Restoration. Made of wood, with tortoiseshell, bone and mother-of-pearl inlay, metal frets and fittings for the eight metal strings (one string is detached and included in the lot) in four double courses, attached to metal pins at the base. The bowl with multiple ribs of mid-brown wood, the joins with strips of pale wood, the whole framed in dark wood, the front with inlay of black and pale wood strips round the edges and round the sound hole, an inlaid shaped tortoiseshell scratch-plate below the sound hole. Bone saddle on the bridge, bone bar at the top of the finger-board, bone tuning peg heads. Mother-of-pearl discs inlaid in fingerboard. Maker's printed paper label for 'Pietro Tonelli Fabbricanti Di Mandolini Napoli' glued inside bowl, visible through sound hole. Condition - Splits, chips and losses detailed in the photographs. Approximately 61cm long

Look to be without significant fault, listed as tested, in original boxes. Boxes have significant storage wear.
SIX TSUBA (HAND GUARDS)Edo period (1615-1868), 17th to 19th centuryAll iron; the first oval, Akasaka type, pierced and chiselled with stylised dakimyoga (confronted ginger shoots) and chrysanthemum petals; the second cruciform with a hammered-up edge, chiselled with descending geese and waves, the reverse with a landscape, signed Yamashiro no kuni Fushimi no ju Kaneie; the third mokko (four-lobed) with a broad hammered-up rim, the plate chiselled with Amida yasurime (radial striations), the rim with traces of silver inlay of tendrils; the fourth oval, pierced and chiseled with two kura (saddle) ends inlaid in gold with tendrils, signed Bushu no ju Masakata; the fifth oval, small, pierced with stylised flying geese; the sixth square with indented corners, pierced with two Genjimon. dating: 1650-1656 circa provenance: Germany, Smoothbore, two-stage, 15 mm cal. barrel, first octagonal with two deep marks on the left side, provided with a rear sight, then round and with foresight; typical external wheel lock, lock plate with tang and pan with sliding pan cover. Walnut full stock with grooves under the barrel and decorations on the back of the butt and behind the tang, on the counterplate side a round mark with the letters 'ZM', also on this side bar with saddle ring. Iron mounts. Original iron-tipped wooden ramrod. Provenance: Sotheby's sale 5th-15th October 2005 'The Royal House of Hanover - Das Königshaus von Hannover'. Lot 729.The weapon comes from Cumberland Castle, Gmunden, 1890, inventory number G 443 ( the number on the brass plate is still on the bar of the gun). length 98 cm.
dating: Third quarter of the 19th Century provenance: USA, Round, rifled, 50 cal. barrel, provided with front sight and rear sight with foldaway leaf. Rifling visible on the entire length, clean bore. Frame with rolling block mechanisms, 'M' mark. Saddle ring on left side. Large parts of the original bluing. Upper tang with Remington marking and patents from 1863 and 1864. Smooth, wooden butt and fore-end. Iron mounts. Butt plate marked 'U.S.' and 'M'. Stamps on the wood including 'P'. Type II. The predecessor of the 'Rolling Block' system. Many copies were resold and used during the Franco-Prussian war. See Flayderman's Guide, 9th Edition, pages 178-179 (5E-079). length 86.5 cm.
dating: 1887-1890 provenance: USA, Round, rifled barrel (bore with light pitting, visible rifling), with folding and adjustable foresight and rear sight, featuring the company marking and patents up to 1887, in two lines, caliber at the base on the left side '44 Cal.'. Frame with lower tang featuring the serial number '70xxx'. Working mechanism. Fore-end and butt, both of walnut. Saddle ring on the left side. length 94 cm.
