An early 19th century East European cavalry officer’s sword, curved fullered blade 30½”, etched on both sides with star, man in the moon, 2 stars, trophy of arms, 2 stars and turbanned head and shoulders at forte, brass pronounced stirrup hilt with langets (device missing from outer side), knucklebow, plain forward sloping pommel and backstrap with langets, wirebound leather grip (some wear), in ifs steel scabbard with shaped shoe, 2 brass bands with rings, and brass throat mount; old label attached: “Russian Lt Cavalry Officer’s sword and scabd. c 1800”. A 19th century Turkish officer’s mameluke style sword, fully curved, fullered blade 28½”, probably German, etched on both sides with trophies of arms and flags with foliage, in scrolled panels, the ornate sheet brass covered hilt, retaining a little original gilt, embossed with foliate scrolls, and set with red and turqouise “stones” on the outer side, in its dark green velvet covered scabbard, the locket (loose), middle band and chape en suite with hilt and set with stones on the outer. GC, the blade retaining approx 40% original polish (light surface rust patches, scabbard velvet some wear). Plate 7
A high quality hilted early 19th century Indian sword tulwar, curved fullered blade 32½”, from a 1796 pattern light cavalry officers sword, etched with crowned GR cypher, mythical beasts, trophies and flourishes, steel hilt of traditional form with long langets, domed crossguard finials, knucklebow with ornamental finial, disc pommel and pierced top mount, finely bordered overall with gold damascene panels of stylized flowers and foliage, in its leather covered scabbard with blackened steel chape and 2 bands, with belt loop, all bordered with stylized gold damascene foliate patterns.
