John Strachan, Founder of the National Swimming Society, three-quarter length portrait with swimmers in lake behind, lithograph with original hand-colouring on thick wove paper, sheet 310 x 215 mm (12 1/8 x 8 1/2 in), slightly irregularly trimmed, surface dirt and minor spotting, unframed, Day & Haghe, 1837; together with The Graphic's 1886 group portrait The Sixteen Leading Chess Players of the World, and six further portraits and printed illustrations of Chess players, and four further portraits of Shelley, Wordsworth, Keats, and Coleridge, by Riddle & Couchman for "Masterpiece Library", 1895, various sizes, all unframed, 19th century (12)⁂ Scarce. We have been unable to locate another copy. "Promoting the art of swimming throughout the British Empire, as a delightful, healthy & life-preserving exercise".
