David Eustace [b.1950]-Football Mad, A Tense Moment;Watching The Game,:-two, both signedand further signed and inscribed on the reverseoils and acrylic on boardeach 23 x 19cm. [2]David Eustace was born in Birmingham in 1950 and now lives in Exeter where he has a small modern studio in a complex of workshops for local craftsmen and designers.Eustace works in a tradition of English imaginative painters like Stanley Spencer, Alfred Wallace and Beryl Cook and he cites influences from Magritte and Rousseau, Atkinson Grimshaw, William Blake and David Hockney. There are two strong themes within his body of work. The anecdotal and narrative paintings that embrace the street, the 'man-in-the-pub' and the contemporary townscape as a theatre to observe and from which to draw inspiration and ideas. And the more eccentric and reflective dips into the sub-conscious with a Freudian-like interpretation of dreams, memories and emotions.
