Antique Edwardian Silver-Cased Francis Barker Pocket Aneroid BarometerHallmarked 1901 AD. A good quality aneroid barometer (in working condition) with rotating outer altitude scale (to 8000 feet) and the pressure range of 23 to 31 (inches of mercury); the face inscribed `Improved Scale, Compensated, Rd 149175`; the silver case in the same form as seen on half hunter pocket watches of the period, with circular glazed window retained by a broad copper ring to outer cover, hallmarked with London date letter `f` for 1901 and with maker`s mark `F. B & Sn.` for Francis Barker & Son of 12 Clerkenwell Road, London; with a printout showing advertisements of this maker (1891 and 1893) and a brief history. 97 grams, 68mm (2 1/2"). Ex Sussex, UK collector; acquired by gift 1970s. The form of the maker`s hallmark on this barometer was registered 29 March 1894 and was used until 30 June 1908, when the firm became a limited liability company; the company still exists today, based in Edenbridge, Kent, manufacturing fine prismatic compasses, as part of Pyser-SGI Ltd. Fine condition; outer glass slightly loose in setting.
