Edinburgh - A late 19th century silver 'bullet' shaped teapot, mark of William Marshall & Son, 1875, in the typical Georgian design, the decorative side with monogrammed cartouches, part marked hinged cover and capped scroll handle with ivory insulators, raised on a pedestal foot, 18cm high 596.5g (19.2ozt) Silver 'bullet' teapots became fashionable in Britain from the beginning of the 18th century. The spherical bullet shape of this example and the tall, raised foot are features characteristic of Scottish teapot design during this period. Teapots of this form, from Edinburgh and Glasgow, were made from as early as 1722 until the late 19th century.
