Supplied new by Henlys in late 1934, this well-travelled SS1 is fresh from long-term ownership and appears to only need some light recommissioning.Forerunner of the 'Jaguar' marque, 'SS' originally stood for the Swallow Sidecar & Coachbuilding Company, which had been founded in Blackpool, England by William Walmsley in 1922. The company branched out into motor manufacture in 1926, its first major success being an attractive sports saloon on the Austin Seven chassis. The design was the work of Walmsley's business partner, William Lyons, whose future Jaguar creations would confirm his reputation as one of the British motor industry's most gifted stylists. The SS1, launched in 1932, is a close-coupled coupé based on the Standard Ensign 16hp. The chassis and body were designed by Lyons; a long bonnet, tiny passenger compartment and helmet-type front wings imply the ultimate in high performance of the time and this is what ultimately created a blueprint for Jaguars of the future, combining sporting good looks with a better-than-average specification. Indeed, so successful was Lyons' new venture that production of Swallow-bodied cars ceased altogether in 1933, and SS Cars Limited was formed, initially as a subsidiary of the Swallow sidecar-building business. For 1934 the SS1 gained a new wide-track chassis and slightly enlarged Standard engines of 2,143cc and 2,663cc, while the body - now available in four different configurations - underwent yet another restyle. In this, its final form, the SS1 remained in production until 1936, by which time 2,503 examples of this ultimate version had been made. The final assembly of this Swallow Sports One (SS1) Tourer on to its Standard Motor Company rolling chassis (#245816) was completed on the 17th December 1934 and, as a late 1934 Model, it benefited from a wider track and a synchromesh gearbox. Finished in Birch Grey with a green interior and a green soft top and powered by a 2,663cc 68bhp straight-six. It was despatched to Henlys, registered MG 3624 and onward to a, rather proud we imagine, Mr L Garton of Surrey.Within the history file there is a ‘Buff’ logbook which lists a further four owners, the last one being a Mr Michael Roberts of Huddersfield, who appears to have written a running commentary on the maintenance of the car from 1981 until 1985. The car at this point was painted red, so presumably had been refinished between 1934 and his purchase. There appears to be a small gap in the car’s history until 1994/5 when it was exported to Germany when its keeper is listed as Herr Frederick Rausch of Langscheid. There is a raft of invoices for works completed between then and c.2008 along with some photographs detailing what looks like an engine rebuild. At this point the car carried the registration plate MK 06333. The SS then returned to the UK and joined a large private Collection, where it remained until recently. We are unsure of exactly when the car’s current silver and silver grey two-tone finish was applied, but it still presents well today. The odometer is reading 8,692 miles which we assume is 108,692 but can’t warrant. The lovely period interior is trimmed in Burgundy Leather with Art Deco ‘sunburst’ door cards and sports its original steering wheel and dashboard including the combined 100mph speedometer and 5,000rpm tach. Externally, the car is just what you would hope to find with decent silver/silver grey paintwork, running boards, chrome wire wheels wrapped in Firestone ‘whitewall’ tyres, a fold-down windscreen, big Lucas 165 headlamps and a chrome badge bar with an early AA badge. The SS is supplied with a large A4 history file containing details of previous keepers, old MOTs etc. and, as mentioned earlier, a lot of information from Herr Rausch during his ownership. Having been in storage for several years, the car will require a certain amount of recommissioning and we invite and encourage interested parties to view this lovely 1930s Tourer and form their own opinion.SpecificationMake: SWALLOWModel: SS1Year: 1934Chassis Number: 248516Registration Number: MG 3624Transmission: ManualEngine Number: 248501Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 8692 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Burgundy LeatherClick here for more details and images
SS Cars Ltd. top of the range 2½-Litre 'Jaguar' saloon, sold new in Australia and restored by Nantes Brothers over there before returning home.'SS' originally stood for the Swallow Sidecar & Coachbuilding Company, which had been founded in Blackpool, England by William Walmsley. The company branched out into motor manufacture in 1926, its first major success being an attractive sports saloon on the Austin Seven chassis, designed by Walmsley's partner, one William Lyons. Marque status arrived in October 1931 with the launch of the SS1 which went some way towards establishing the pattern for future Jaguars, combining sporting good looks with a better-than-average specification and all at a bargain price.By the time the SS90 sports car arrived in 1935, William Heynes had joined as Chief Engineer. Based on a shortened SS1 chassis, re-engineered by Heynes, the SS90 again demonstrated Lyons' consummate skill as a stylist, its long bonnet, smoothly flowing wings, cut-away doors and truncated tail making it every inch the epitome of the 1930s sports car. Although undeniably handsome and good for 90mph, the SS90 was handicapped by the limitations of its sidevalve engine, a deficiency that would soon be rectified by another of Lyons' new recruits, gas-flow consultant Harry Weslake. In 1936, the new Weslake-developed overhead-valve 2,663cc power unit appeared in two new models: the 2½-Litre saloon and SS100 sports car. The introduction of the OHV engine was considered to justify the adoption of a new name for the series, William Lyons later recalling: "I immediately pounced on Jaguar as it had an exciting sound to me." ('Jaguar' would be adopted as the marque name in 1943, 'SS' having by then acquired a somewhat tarnished reputation.) With 104bhp on tap from the twin-carburettor 'six', the newcomers' performance at last matched the style that had already become a company hallmark. This beautifully restored SS 2½-Litre saloon would undoubtedly have turned a lot of heads when it landed, brand new, in Queensland Australia in 1937.In 1968, it was purchased by a Mr. Carter who felt that a restoration was on the cards, but it was only when his son inherited it in the 1990s, that he definitely decided it was worthy of a top restoration and he commissioned the Nantes Brothers, renowned in Australia for top quality SS Jaguar restorations. Besides an excellent restoration, a few improvements were made which included fitting a post-war 3½ litre crankshaft which was a period modification at the time offering more power and better reliability. This was an Australian domestic market upgrade because of the high mileages covered there by owners. The car was repatriated to England in 2004 and has been enjoyed on the showground, in concours competition, collecting trophies en route, featuring in various magazines and generally being admired. Classically presented in Old English White with Apple Green leather and gleaming hardwood, the exceptional quality of the Nantes Brothers restoration still is a sight to behold and would give any new owner a great sense of pride at any Jaguar event or tour.SpecificationMake: SSModel: JAGUARYear: 1936Chassis Number: 11963Registration Number: 599 XUCTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 251359 Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 10633 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: GreenClick here for more details and images
A hugely competitive, exceptionally handsome example of one of the last Riley Specials built by guru Keith Pointing, with a recent £7,000 mechanical rejuvenation.Riley is a name steeped in the history of legendary sporting road cars, boasting a legacy of triumphs in competition, rivalling esteemed marques like Bentley, Aston Martin, and HRG. The 12/4 was first unveiled at the 1934 Olympia Motor Show and continued the success of its predecessor, the Nine, by harnessing the power of an outstanding Percy Riley-designed twin-cam engine. The enlargement to 1.5-litres and ingenious modification resulted in a remarkable 51bhp output, granting the 12/4 a top speed exceeding 70mph – an impressive feat within its class. The model was offered with three distinctive body options: the sleek and streamlined Kestrel, the upright Falcon saloon, and the open-top Lynx, paired with a choice of a standard manual or a pre-selector gearbox. In 1936, the 12/4 was rebranded as the 1½-Litre, and its highly tuneable power unit continued in production until 1955, when the RME model met its end. This incredible 12/4 Special, a testament to Riley expertise, was crafted by the renowned specialist Keith Pointing in the late 1990s to early 2000s. Configured as a hill-climb special/VSCC competition racer, it showcases a bespoke, lightweight aluminium body, finished in a striking red hue, displaying a few character marks that add to its charm. Inside, the car's interior is remarkably pretty yet purposeful with its Jaeger instruments and metal panelling. At the heart of this racing marvel is its 1½--litre engine, featuring twin camshafts set at an innovative 45-degree angle, coupled with a crossflow head. The engine's power has been further enhanced by a Stage Two cylinder head upgrade, complemented by an ENV pre-selector gearbox that ensures seamless and quick gear changes. Having participated in numerous prestigious events across the Continent including Angoulême and Pau, this extraordinary machine has gathered an impressive collection of silverware and proudly exhibits some of its race entry stickers. Its impeccable condition and well-documented history, chronicling its journey from inception to victory make it a truly unique and cherished piece of automotive history.Always under the ownership of dedicated enthusiasts, the car has been cherished and maintained with precision with a plethora of bills for parts and invoices for work undertaken since its transformation into the hill-limb special. Most recently, completed on 18/07/23, £7,500 has been spent with Riley specialists Blue Diamond for a front-to-back mechanical rejuvenation where required to ensure the car is mechanically excellent for sale. The car's extensive history file stands as a testament to its impeccable provenance, accompanied by VSCC papers, preserving its pedigree and authenticity. The file is replete with captivating photographs capturing its transformation, press cuttings, racing and rally participation records, old MOTs and tax discs, and race reports highlighting its illustrious past. A tonneau cover and spare cylinder head are included. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a very fast Riley, backed by the reputable Keith Pointing name and with significant recent investment, offering a chance to continue its legacy and bring home more trophies.SpecificationMake: RILEYModel: 12/4 SPORTS SPECIALYear: 1936Chassis Number: S26K3784Registration Number: MJ 9694Transmission: ManualEngine Number: SK3784 Drive Side: Right-hand DriveMake: RHDClick here for more details and images
A high-quality, powerful Edwardian touring car - which has been completely restored in recent years - ideal for Veteran Car Club and Vintage Sports-Car Club Light Car and Edwardian events.Although long since departed, Wolseley was one of Britain's foremost car makers throughout the Edwardian period and into the 1920s, even though it was originally founded by Irish-born Frederick York Wolseley in Sydney, Australia in 1887 to manufacture sheep-shearing equipment. Two years later a subsidiary was set up in Birmingham, England where works manager, Herbert Austin, would be responsible for the first Wolseley motor car, a three-wheeler built on Léon Bollée lines, in 1896.Early Wolseleys featured horizontal engines, but it was with the arrival of vertical-engined multi-cylinder cars in the Edwardian era that Wolseley earned its reputation for finely engineered, smooth and powerful transport. By this time, Herbert Austin had left to pursue his own career and his place was taken by John D Siddeley whose own company, taken over by Wolseley in 1904, had been making vertical-engined cars based on the French Peugeot. Siddeley forged ahead with an ever-expanding range of vertical-engined models which, for the next few years, were marketed under the 'Wolseley-Siddeley' name, reverting to plain 'Wolseley' after Siddeley's departure in 1911. By now the company was among the leading British car makers, active also in such diverse fields as commercial vehicles, marine and aero-engines, and other engineering activities. Wolseleys had Royal patronage – HM Queen Alexandra had several of the marque, and they were exported in large numbers to Australia, Canada, India and New Zealand. Wolseleys were also built under licence by the Wolsit company in Italy. Operations at Crayford ceased in 1908, but the Adderley Park factory was extended several times and was one of the largest car factories in Europe. The car offered here (20331) is an example of Wolseley's 4,961cc, six-cylinder, side-valve engined 24/30hp, an up-market model produced between 1911 and 1915. It is one of a number of barn find, early Wolseleys unearthed in Canada in the early 1960s by Charles G. Neville and the whole story is recounted in Neville's book, Wolseleys in Canada 1900-1920. Chapter 15 of the book deals with the discovery of 20331, its rescue from the barn, research into its early history and the next 30 years. The car's first owner was a Dr Oscar Pelham Edgar, Head of the French Department, Victoria College, University of Toronto and it was sold some 15 years later to the Bowyers family of Erskine Avenue, also in Toronto, and this fascinating story is well-documented by Charles Neville. He was to own the car until 2008, when it was believed to have been purchased by Richard Eastmead (ex-President of the Veteran Car Club of GB - VCC) who, we understand, partially restored the Wolseley (chassis, axles, engine, gearbox and steering box etc.). The restoration was finished by the car's previous owner with much of the ash frame being restored/replaced, a new steel body formed and finished in Midnight Blue, the interior superbly trimmed in button-back Navy Blue leather and all finished with a new hood and tonneau cover. When purchased by our vendor around a year ago, the carburettor needing setting up as the car was not running cleanly, however along with a number of other small jobs this has been attended to and it now runs particularly well. It's fitted with a transmission brake which is foot-operated, aided by a hand-operated brake lever and, we understand, the car now stops as well as it goes. Our vendor has enjoyed this venerable Wolseley on local events and trips to the pub, but a change of plans means that it's now available.BF 9725 is a fine Edwardian touring car, ideal for Veteran Car Club and VSCC Light Car and Edwardian events, and very sensibly-guided considering the quality and versatility on offer.SpecificationMake: WOLSELEYModel: M6 24/30HPYear: 1913Chassis Number: 20331Registration Number: BF 9725Transmission: ManualEngine Number: 5500Drive Side: Right-hand DriveMake: RHDInterior Colour: Blue leatherClick here for more details and images

This example has no fewer than 30 service stamps, being taken to Mercedes-Benz main agents until 2002 at 75,000 miles, with a further 11 services carried out by a mixture of local garages and Mercedes-Benz specialists since. The car comes to the sale fresh from a service by Mercedes-Benz.The R107 generation SL has gathered some immense interest in the past few years, and these late 300 models offer possibly the best all round package. The 300 engine offers plenty of power and torque for cruising, without the added expense to be expected from its bigger 500 V8 sibling. Our vendor reports this car is an absolute delight to drive, Mercedes of this era were renowned for their built quality and over-engineered approach, meaning well kept examples can really stand the tests of time.
1971 MG B Roadster Transmission: manualMileage:13380The MGB is a classic British sports car manufactured in numbers to cater for the insatiable appetite for open top motoring in the 1960s and 1970s. Built with rugged mechanics and powered by the un-burstable, all-iron BMC B-Series, 1800cc engine, the MGB was of lightweight monocoque construction and incorporated crumple zones designed to protect the occupants.Originally registered 1st April 1971, this well-presented example is resplendent in red coachwork over a cognac leather interior with a superb walnut dashboard. Treated to an extensive body-off restoration some years ago which included repair and restoration of the chassis, a full respray to the bodywork, an extensive engine rebuild and a new interior. Various other works were also completed which included many mechanical parts being renewed and restored as well as new chrome wire wheels being fitted. A mohair hood is also fitted to this MGB which is in very good condition, important for the UK summer months! The general condition of this MG is very good, the coachwork and brightwork are all in very good condition only showing a few minor age-related blemishes, as to the interior and engine bay. Reported by the vendor to run and drive very well indeed, this MG fires up when asked and has recently completed a trip from the Cotswolds to our storage facility in Iver, with no issues to report.Offered with a sizeable history file including many invoices detailing the restoration, various sundry bills and invoices, old tax discs and MoT test certificates, and its current V5C registration document. MGs are well supported by several specialists resulting in a motor car that is, not only straight forward to maintain but also great fun to drive. If you are looking for a well sorted example this is surely top of the list.
1982 Lancia Montecarlo Transmission: manualMileage:52225The Lancia Beta Montecarlo is a mid-engined sports car which was produced from 1975 through to 1982. Cars from 1975 to 1978 were known as a Lancia Beta Montecarlo and the latter cars produced from 1979 to 1982, were simply known as Lancia Montecarlo. Both series were offered in coupé and spider versions and were constructed by Pininfarina. The total production amounted to 3,835 first series Beta Montecarlo's and 1,940 second series, of which only 172 cars were right hand drive coupés.This particular example presents in fantastic, largely original condition. The vendor had the aim to sympathetically refresh the car, retaining as much of the original paint as possible. The car had some repairs to the sills and outer door skins earlier in its life but on the whole, our vendor was so impressed with the condition of the car when he saw it, he decided to buy it. The interior also presents in fantastic condition, showing it has clearly been in the hands of enthusiasts for its whole 41 years and 52,000 miles. Our vendor has spent a reasonable amount of money on the car whilst in his ownership, the largest invoice coming from Freelance Motors in Devon in 2018. The work carried out came to a total cost of £1,945.48, for work consisting of a Guy Croft racing exhaust, which gives a lovely tone without being too shouty. Other work included a wheel alignment, big end shells, sump replacement, front and rear springs, suspension poly-bushing, front shock absorber, a thorough service and various gaskets and mountings. The car has also been cared for by Darren Cooksey, who is hugely knowledgeable on Lancia Montecarlo's. He did a timing belt change, fuel pump change and recent carburettor rebuild, along with various other small jobs. This Montecarlo is an excellent example, which our vendor has enjoyed using regularly in the summer months and sometimes even uses it to commute to work. He reports the car is always a joy to drive.
1986 Porsche 911 Targa 3.2 Transmission: manualMileage:73548The Porsche 911 is a luxury two-door sports coupé with a distinctive design, rear engine and independent rear suspension; an evolution of the swing axle on the Porsche 356. It has undergone continuous development although the basic concept has remained virtually unchanged. Throughout its lifetime, the 911 has been modified by private teams and by the factory itself for racing, rallying and other forms of automotive competition. It is among the most successful competition cars ever. In the mid-1970s, normally aspirated 911 Carrera RSRs won major world championship sports car races such as Targa Florio, Daytona, Sebring and Nürburgring, even against prototypes. The 911 derived 935 Turbo also won the coveted 24 Hours Le Mans in 1979. At the 1999 international poll for the award of Car of the Century, the 911 came fifth. It is one of two in the top five that has remained continuously in production (the original Beetle remained in production until 2003) and was until 1998, the most successful surviving application of the air cooled, horizontally opposed rear-engine layout. This delightfully handsome Porsche 911 Targa was originally registered on 1st August 1986. The white coachwork on this galvanised body 911 is exquisite with excellent panel gaps and a splendid paint finish. The blue leather trim appears to be original and has a delightful patina. The 3164cc six-cylinder fuel injected engine runs extremely well, this is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox and we are advised this Porsche drives with no known faults. Complemented by a rear whale fin and colour co-ordinated wheels, this really is an eye-catching car. Over a three-year period and with the help of a retired mechanic, the previous owner recommissioned this Porsche with a 'no expense spared' attitude and with great attention to detail. The net result is a Porsche 911 Targa of the highest quality. The current owner purchased this car in July 2018 and has kept it to the same high standard having it regularly service and maintained by Brookspeed Porsche, Eastleigh, Hampshire with the last service being carried out in May of this year. The car is supplied with a V5C registration document, a current MoT test certificate valid until 9th April 2024 and a file containing invoices and old MoT's after 2014. Demand for these air-cooled Porsches remains strong with examples as good as this hard to come by.
2005 Mercedes-Benz C55 AMG Transmission: automaticMileage:44025The C55 signified a return to AMG's V8 roots, after barely a three-year flirtation with a supercharged V6. AMG found 8,100 homes for the C32, but the AMG engineers seemed much happier now that there was a serious, big-capacity, naturally aspirated 5.4 litre V8 powering the meatiest C-Class and the badge is there to, well, to ensure the owners don't forget. It is not the performance, AMG claimed 5.2 seconds to 62mph for both C55 and C32, or even the transformation to a deep, wonderfully muscular exhaust note, but the makeover in the dynamics that stood the new sports saloon apart. The C55 marked a small, but perceptible, shift towards a sharper, more sporting focus, that set it closer to the M3 than any previous AMG hot rod C-Class.This example of this brute of a car is presented in silver with a black leather interior and comes with electric heated front seats, sunroof, air conditioning with climate control. Also accompanying the car is its original service book showing frequent servicing at almost yearly intervals from 31st June 2005 to October 2019. The car has also benefitted recently from a new radiator, new spark plugs, a brake fluid change and a change of engine and gearbox oil. With the values of the earlier Cosworth-inspired super sports Mercedes rocketing well into six figures, this pure-blood AMG super saloon in the lightweight C-Class bodyshell is already a collectible Mercedes AMG hot-rod, with blistering performance and that oh-so-inspiring and famous AMG V8 exhaust note.
2001 Mercedes-Benz SL320 Transmission: automaticMileage:18970Unveiled at the March 1989 Geneva Motor Show, the new Mercedes-Benz R129 Series SL range was beautifully engineered. Based around a two-door monocoque bodyshell, its sophisticated, all-round independent suspension was augmented by a host of active and passive safety features including electronic stability control, ventilated ABS disc brakes, adaptive-damping shock absorbers, front airbags and an integral rollover bar that deployed in less than a third of a second if the car ever sensed an impending flip. Suitably cosseting, the convertible's impeccably built cabin included a fully automated power hood and featured such advancements as memory seats, electric windows/mirrors and an adjustable steering column. Yet lurking beneath all the luxury and refinement was a performance orientated sports car. This superb example is presented in maroon with cream leather interior, both of which are in excellent condition. It comes with a very high specification including the factory hardtop. Offered in fantastic condition throughout the paintwork, interior and engine bay are all in fine fettle and we are told by the vendor that the car is a joy to drive. This lovely SL320 comes with its relevant booklets including the service book, many invoices for various services, maintenance bills, old MoT test certificates and the V5C registration document. A significant amount of money has been spent on this example during its life and as such it is ready to be enjoyed by its new owner. In our opinion, the colour combination of this particular Mercedes-Benz is one of the most desirable and in this condition, with just 18,970 miles on the odometer it must make it one of the best available.
2004 Aston Martin DB9 Transmission: automaticMileage:74028The sleek superformed aluminium body of the DB9 was initially designed by Ian Callum but had also been significantly influenced by the next director of AM design, Hendrik Fisker. It was powered by a third generation version of the now familiar 6.0 litre, V12 and has a top speed of 186mph. The DB9 was the first of what was to become a long line of production Aston Martins to use VH architecture; using superformed parts in the chassis and footwell as well as the body panels. The individual die-cast, extruded or stamped aluminium elements of the VH platform are bonded with strong adhesives and self-piercing rivets to make a lightweight but stiff backbone. The DB9 body shell weighed 25% less than that of the DB7 but has double its torsional rigidity. This process also allowed Aston Martin to retain high levels of engineering accuracy in producing a car at a higher volume, ensuring chassis performance to match the engine power. Aston Martins have always made the interior of their cars to be very special places. The fine detail of finishing is typified by the starter button made of glass and sand etched with the Aston Martin wings logo. This example is presented in dark metallic blue with cream leather interior, which is arguably the best colour combination. It comes with a service record from 2004 to 2017 where it shows servicing from various Aston Martin specialists. The present owner has had the car professionally stored whiles in his ownership and hardly driven it hence his decision to sell. These cars are a joy to drive, emitting a very throaty staccato sound from the characterful V12 engine, whether cruising on a wave of torque or wringing it out in fast road driving. This fabulous sports car can now be purchased at a fraction of its original sale price when new and still looks stunning.
2000 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage Volante Transmission: automaticMileage:24238Introduced in 1993 to the public, the handsome new DB7 was styled by Ian Callum, its lines were evocative of earlier Aston Martin models and elements of the DB4/5/6 could be seen in its design. Arguably one of the most attractive looking cars ever produced by Aston Martin, the DB7 was well received and attracted new customers worldwide with its traditional layout of the curvaceous two-door coupé body. At the Geneva Motor Show in 1999, Aston Martin introduced the six litre Cosworth-designed and built V12 engine, developing 420bhp and accelerating from 0-60mph in 4.9 seconds with a top speed limited to 185mph. Ian Callum enlarged the grille, added fog lamps and restyled the valances to give the car a more aggressive look. This fabulous example is presented in light metallic blue with a blue and cream leather interior, both of which are in superb condition. The car has a good service history from 2000 to 2023 including all MoT test certificates right up until the present day, although there is a letter on file to explain a slight discrepancy to the mileage on one of the MoT test certificates which was human error at the MoT station! There is also a wind breaker and a hood cover which comes with the car. All the wood, leather and interior are superb! These are rare and highly sought-after sports cars which are drop dead gorgeous and with its V12 engine providing the power, it has the performance to match!
1950 Morgan 4/4 Drophead Coupé by Ellis Brothers Transmission: manualMileage:23692The Morgan Plus 4 was the Morgan Motor Company's first car with four wheels, introduced in 1936 following the end of production of the famed three wheeled motorcycle engine model. In 1950, the new Plus 4 appeared, with a 2,088cc Standard (later Triumph) engine producing 68bhp and delivering an 85mph top speed. The Plus 4 also featured a stiffer frame, improved front suspension, and Girling hydraulic brakes. Three bodystyles were offered: the two-seater, the four-seater, and the drophead coupé. Always a popular choice for sports car enthusiasts across the globe, the combination of the typically British 1930's styling with its flowing wings, modern performance and reliability have ensured the Morgan is as popular today as it ever has been. This is a rare example of this British classic with coachwork by Ellis Brothers in Newton Abbot and is believed to be one of only three built with drophead coupé bodywork by City Garage in Exeter. It is presented in red with a black interior and black hood. Showing lovely patina throughout, the car comes with a large history file and its original buff logbook. The first owner had the car for some 50 years and although this pretty sports car runs and drives, it will want re-commissioning as it has been stored for few years.
2003 Vauxhall VX220 Turbo Transmission: manualMileage:28877The Opel Speedster was a British built mid-engined, Targa topped, two-seater sports car sold by the German automaker Opel and introduced in July 2000. It was built in both right hand drive and left hand drive versions at the Lotus Cars plant in Hethel, Norfolk, England and it was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1999. It was sold as the Vauxhall VX220 in the United Kingdom and the Daewoo Speedster in the Asian market. The car shared much in common with the Lotus Elise, although Opel claimed few parts were interchangeable. The Speedster utilised an aluminium chassis tub that weighed only 159lbs. The car also featured bodywork made entirely of glass reinforced plastic (GRP). The entire car weighed only 1,929lbs which made it considerably lighter than the similarly sized Toyota MR2. At its launch, the Speedster's all aluminium alloy 2.2 L Z22SE engine produced 147bhp, making it more powerful than the Elise when it was launched. This fabulous example was registered new on 1st February 2003 and was originally a very rare Vauxhall press car. This VX220 Turbo is presented in yellow coachwork with a black leather interior and has covered a mere 28,877 miles from new which is quite exceptional. The paintwork and interior are both in very good order and the vendor reports that it runs and drives very well indeed. Currently residing in the current vendors private collection, this Vauxhall comes with a comprehensive service history detailed in its service booklet and comes complete with its original handbooks, service bills to complement the service book, sundry invoices and maintenance bills, and the current V5C registration document. This lovely little sports car also comes with its original factory removable hard and soft Targa top. This must be one of the lowest mileage examples of this marque offered on the market today. Previously featured on the cover of Classic and Sports Car Magazine, this wonderful sports car would still give most modern sports cars a run for their money on the open road!
1973 Citroën SM 3.0 Manual Transmission: manualMileage:99392In 1961, Citroën began work on 'Project S', a sports variant of the revolutionary Citroën DS. As was customary for the firm, many running concept vehicles were developed, increasingly complex and upmarket from the DS. Citroën purchased Maserati in 1968 with the intention of harnessing Maserati's high-performance V6 engine technology to produce a true Gran Turismo car combining the sophisticated Citroën suspension. The result was the Citroën SM, first shown at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1970 and which went on sale in France in September of that year. Factory produced cars were all left hand drive, although right hand conversions were available in the UK and Australia. The origin of the model name 'SM' is not completely clear. The 'S' may derive from the Project 'S' designation and the 'M' perhaps refers to Maserati, hence SM is often assumed to stand for 'Systeme Maserati' or 'Sports Maserati'.Exported new in 1973 to the United States of America, this SM was believed to have been owned by a French diplomat. This would explain the incredibly rare specification of it being a 3.0 litre car, but with a manual transmission. Most 3.0 litre cars were supplied with the automatic gearbox rather than the manual and most of the total production were supplied with the smaller 2.7 litre motor, (thanks to the French 'puissance fiscale' taxation which made large displacement vehicles too expensive to sell in any quantity in France). The vendor acquired the car from Octane magazine Editor David Lillywhite, who had catalogued a long and often painful restoration of the car to its now beautiful state in the magazine. Included in the car's history file along with import documentation, is a full print out of all the articles mapping David Lillywhite's restoration journey. It appears he went through every element of the car and had the car resprayed to match the restoration, as well as replacing the American specification front light clusters to the prettier Perspex covered European units. The vendor reports the car to run and drive very well and is now selling only as part of a downsizing of his considerable collection.Supplied with a V5C registration document along with import papers, original owner's manual and a record of the Octane magazine restoration articles. You would be hard pushed to find another manual 3.0 litre SM, let alone one which has had such love and car lavished upon it as well as having the restoration process followed by the leading classic car magazine.
2004 MG X-Power SV Transmission: manualMileage:5313MG's striking SV was designed by Peter Stevens, Royal College of Art Designer who had been responsible for McLaren's F1 and was based on the platform of the Qvale Mangusta. Prior to the demise of MG Rover, a team has been working on a project to return the company to the forefront of motorsport competition via sports and touring racing which included production of high-performance road cars. The X-Power SV was planned as the ultimate in the company's street legal offerings. Making its debut at the 2002 UK Motor Show the SV boasted a mouth-watering specification including a Ford 4.6 litre V8 power plant with five-speed gearbox and limited slip differential. The design's Italian-built steel box frame chassis (clothed in carbon fibre) was extremely rigid - as it needed to be in order to cope with some 320bhp on tap. The 0-60mph dash could be achieved in under 5.5 seconds whilst top speed was quoted at 165mph.Car number 144 was sold new in May 2004 to Gordon Sturdy who specified his SV as a manual gearbox car painted in Garnet Red Supertallic. Believed to be the only one painted in this shade of red, (most red cars being painted in Solar red), it was specified with 'Oyster' leather and Alcantara interior, automatic climate control, CD Tuner, Infinity speakers, large rear spoiler and track day free flowing exhaust. The supplied original bill of sale shows Mr. Sturdy paid £46,000 for the car and then an additional £870 to have the SV seat upgrade. The car's history file shows receipts for maintenance work carried out by Maidstone Sports Cars, as well as the original owner's handbook, parts list CD, MG X-Power SV book by David Knowles and promotional DVD and book. Whilst officially the second owner, Mr. Stury was for all intents and purpose the first, as the car was first registered to MG Sport and Racing Ltd as a demonstrator. It must have had light use though, as even now the car has only covered 5,313 miles. Purchased by our vendor in 2021, the car formed part of a large eclectic collection of cars and has had only light use. Reported by him to run and drive incredibly well, the car is now only for sale to free up some money and space for an incoming project.Supplied with a V5C registration document, original purchase invoice, book pack, maintenance and service handbooks, many MoT test certificates and invoices. This rare and unique car, believed to be the only in this colour is bound to wow at any car meeting or show, with performance to match its wild styling.Interested parties should note that contrary to the catalogue description, this MG SV X-Power is not the only car painted in Garnet Red, but in fact one of only two cars painted by the factory in the colour.
1964 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT Transmission: manualMileage:68444The Alfa Romeo Giulia (105) Sprint GT was designed by Bertone's Giorgetto Giugiaro. The car was launched in September 1963 at the newly opened Arese plant and displayed later that month at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The overall styling of the Giulia was kept very simple however, the Giulia had a very distinctive Scalino 'step front' design with the bonnet sitting approximately 1/4 inch above the nose of the car. Alfa Romeo was one of the first manufacturers to put a powerful engine in a lightweight car for mainstream production, making it a forerunner to today's performance saloons. The Giulia was powered by Alfa Romeo's twin cam, all-aluminium, four cylinder 1,570cc engine mated to a five-speed gearbox. This punchy power plant ensured the car's performance was better than many sports cars of the era. Alfa Romeo took 'Touring Car' racing by storm winning the European Touring Car Championship in 1966, 1967 and 1968.This right hand drive, 1964 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT was supplied new in the UK. At some time it was exported to Australia. The current owner purchased the car there and returned it to the UK in June 2016. After using it sparingly for a while it was put into storage where it has remained until recently. We are informed that the car is matching numbers, has a sound floor pan and is running and drivable. This is a restoration project with a lot of potential for being put back on the road or rebuilt for racing and use on the track. Finished in blue with tan and stripped material interior it is supplied with a V5C registration document and a number of spare parts including an original grille, a new bumper still in its protective wrapping and other parts. These wonderful classic Alfa Romeos are highly sought-after and a restoration project such as this is so rare to find, particularly as the car appears to be complete.
