GO 5762Chassis no. 13610Odometer Reading: TBAMoT: Exempt *Full restoration completed earlier this year*Offered with original Buff logbook*New ash body frameBruce Hudson's 'British Light Cars 1930-1939' said of the latter 12/50 model range 'it helped to reinstate Alvis' reputation for reliable, straight-forward cars that gave long periods of trouble-free service.' This model began life as a saloon that is believed to have been taken off the road in 1960. 'The Nell Collection'1989 MG Maestro 2.0 EFIRegistration no. F482 HWJChassis no. SAXXCTWU7AM595527Odometer Reading: TBC MoT Expiry: 14/08/2020 *Part of a deceased estate*Good bodywork and paint *Some history *A rarer hot hatchback The 1980s saw the rise of the hot hatchback, a theory that combined sports car performance and handling with the practicality of a family three- or five-door. Many European manufacturers jumped onto the bandwagon, some later than others, but not having a performance model in a hatchback range was a serious omission. MG had two hot hatchback models, the Metro and the Maestro, the latter joined by an MG-badged Montego saloon. On offer here is a 1989 Maestro 2.0EFi that has vendor-assessed good bodywork and red paint, the trim and alloy wheels/tyres also in good order, the vendor says. The interior is described as good and the seats show few signs of wear: dashboard and door cards too present well. The engine is reported to be average for starting and good both for running and presentation, the engine bay showing few signs of dirt ingress. The running gear and the electrics are vendor-assessed as good. Please click the link to view the walkaround video of this lot: click hereTo Schedule a video condition report for this lot please click hereFootnotes:Vendor Score Total: 60/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH. 1966 Bristol 408 Sports SaloonRegistration no. FTL 423DChassis no. 408-7206*One of only 83 made*5.1-litre Chrysler V8 engine*Automatic transmission*Subject of a 'ground upwards' professional restorationThe Bristol Aeroplane Company's career as a motor manufacturer began in the aftermath of WW2 when the firm obtained the rights to BMW's automotive designs as part of Germany's post-WW2 reparations. Thus it came about that the Bristol 400, which commenced production in 1947, was effectively a synthesis of three pre-war BMW designs, with a chassis derived from that of the 326, a six-cylinder engine from the 328 sports car, and an aerodynamic bodyshell similar to that of the 327 coupé. But Bristol did more than simply copy the work of its German counterparts, and the application of aviation industry standards to its manufacture resulted in a car more refined and considerably better constructed than its Teutonic forbears.Bristol's line of V8-engined sports saloons began in 1961 with the 407, though in appearance the newcomer closely resembled the preceding six-cylinder 406. The adoption of Chrysler V8 power came not before time, as Bristol's BMW-based engine had effectively been outgrown by the car's increasingly weighty coachwork. With 250bhp (more than double the 406's output) available from its 5.1 litres and a top speed of 125mph, the 407 re-established the Bristol as a true high-performance car but one which nevertheless retained all the refinement and luxury associated with the marque. The 406's four-wheel disc brakes were, naturally, retained for its successor, which came with Chrysler's Torqueflite automatic transmission as standard equipment and coil-spring front suspension in place of the previous transverse-leaf set-up. The chassis was updated and the styling revised periodically throughout the 1960s, the process culminating in the 411 of 1969.The car offered here is an example of the restyled 408 model, only 83 of which were produced between 1963 and 1965. 'FTL 423D' was first registered on 12th January 1966. The car has the 5.2-litre Chrysler V8 engine and three-speed automatic transmission, and has been the subject of a 'ground upwards' professional restoration. Described by the vendor as in superb condition, this rare and desirable Anglo-American Grande Routière is offered with a V5 registration document. To Schedule a video condition report for this lot please click hereFootnotes:Vendor Score Total: 54/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH. 1938 BSA ScoutReg. no. CWU 849Chassis no. 892Engine no. 2223Introduced in 1935, the BSA Scout looked, to the untrained eye, similar in concept to other small 1930s sports cars, such as the Hillman Aero Minx or Singer 9 Sports. However, the Scout hid a secret – instead of being a rear-wheel-drive vehicle like almost all other cars at the time, it was front-wheel-drive. BSA had form in this department – the three-wheelers the company had been making since 1929 were also driven through the front wheels, and as such, extending the technology to four-wheeled cars was a natural step. Following from some unsuccessful efforts at FWD four-wheelers earlier in the 1930s, with the Scout BSA got it right and the result was a popular car. The company claimed, not without justification, that the front-wheel-drive layout made for safer and more predictable handling. Available in both 9hp (1075cc) and 10hp (1203) versions, driving through 3-speed crash gearboxes, the Scout was available with many different body styles throughout its production run, and was regularly revised and improved. Most cars were capable of 70mph. With the outbreak of war, production ended, never to restart. This 1938 10hp Scout is in very good condition. A four-seater tourer, it was restored at some point in the past; in the file there are some photos of it stripped down to the chassis, as well as several old MOTs and a V5C.
2005 Mercedes SLK 350Reg. no. KS54 VRRChassis no. WDB1714562F051921Engine no. 2729633002970SThe second generation of Mercedes’ retractable hardtop sports car, the SLK, was launched for 2004, and the distinctive front-end styling was a tribute to the Formula 1 cars of that era. The new car was longer and wider than the old model, and made use of stiffer steel, giving a 46% increase in torsional rigidity with the roof down – the handling was therefore considerably improved. In addition, the SLK’s most important feature – the retractable hardtop – was improved, now taking just 22 seconds to raise or lower itself. New engines were offered as well, including the 3.5 litre V6 found in this example. For 2005, this engine produced 268bhp, enough for a 0-60 time of 5.4 seconds and a top speed of 155mph.This example is a rare 6-speed manual car; most SLK350s were fitted with a seven-speed automatic gearbox. A well-looked-after example with two previous owners, it is still in very good all-round condition and was serviced by Mercedes-Benz of Salisbury at 62,000 miles. Recently fitted with four new Continental tyres, it come with an MOT until December 2020, plus some bills and a V5c.
