Starfleet officers wore tunics while on duty aboard the Enterprise. In the second pilot episode "Where No Man Has Gone Before," introducing William Shatner's Captain James T. Kirk, women's tunics featured gathered, folded-fabric necklines color-matched to the tunic, not the solid black ribbed plunging necklines featured in later conversions of women's tunics briefly used in early episodes, like "Charlie X." This version appears to be an incomplete conversion following later costuming revisions when the series was formally commissioned by NBCThis velour top was originally blue, indicating that it was worn by science officers, but turned mauve after repeated cleanings. A metal zipper runs up the back with the instruction "Iron Like Nylon, Avoid Hot Iron" printed alongside it inside. Doohan," suggesting it was worn in later films in the franchise. Indeed, creasing and stitching on the gold-color right shoulder strap screen-matches it to the beginning of Star Trek: Generations, when Scotty was aboard the new USS Enterprise-B with James Kirk (William Shatner) and Pavel Chekov (Walter Koenig).
