1998 Jaguar XK8 Roadster Registration Number: R232 FNB Chassis Number: SAJJGAFD3AR026666 Engine Number: CC9803040330 Mileage: 45,762 Launched in 1996 by Jaguar Cars, this was the first in the new series of XK cars, available in two-door coupé or two-door convertible body styles, with the new 4.0-litre Jaguar AJ-V8 engine. The first-generation of the XK series shares its XJS-derived platform with the Aston Martin DB7 and includes Jaguar's independent rear suspension, also taken from the XJS. This much-cared-for XK8 is finished in sapphire blue with an ivory leather interior and walnut dash, electric roof, and has been in the current ownership for the last nine years, recording only 45,762 miles at the last MOT on 20 April 2024. The 4.0 V8 produces 290hp and is said to achieve 0-60 in 6.4 secs, through a 5-speed automatic transmission, and has been maintained meticulously by the current vendor, who was a garage owner for many years. Condition ReportWe are happy to offer our opinion as to the integrity of the vehicle at the sale, however you should accept this is an opinion only and should not be relied upon. In short, you should satisfy yourself as to the completeness, condition and integrity of any lot prior to bidding. There is a small scratch on the drivers side rear quarter panel, a blemish on the bonnet and some expected very small stone chips, also some small under paint corrosion along the lower edge of the nearside rear quarter panel. These are areas to note, but overall the car looks very tidy. Some marks on alloy wheels and osmosis, but again only noted on close scrutiny. There are no marks on the bumper corners, which is nice to see. The car has no reported notes in the log-book about any recall, i am told these early engines on;y developed problesms in the first 15-20,000 miles, if they were going to fail. If they didn't develop problems by this mileage, they usually didn't. This car has no reported problems and starts on the button. The vendor reports that the car had done 38,000 miles when he bought it and has had no issues. The electric hood works well and the car will be on view and electrics can be tested.

Virginia was described by Stephen as 'The sun that melted his cold exterior', they married in 1923, and despite, or perhaps because of the differences in their personalities, with Sir Stephen being scholarly and reserved and Lady Courtauld being vivacious and eccentric, their life together was a happy one. They were known for their philanthropic ventures, adventurous natures, and eccentricities which included a much loved pet, Mah Jong the lemur whose presence at Eltham Palace is much documented.  Although Sir Stephen and Lady Courtauld only lived at the wonderfully Art Deco and historically important Eltham Palace for around eight years, the importance of the house they created and its origins are epitomised in these two jewels commissioned from Cartier for Lady Courtauld in December 1934, and presented to her by Sir Stephen in 1937. The brooches are in the form of King Edward IV cyphers, the White Rose of York upon the starburst of Richard II, known as Rose en Soleil, and the Falcon and Fetterlock. They were made by Cartier using the stained glass window designs by George Kruger Gray. The windows were installed in 1936 can still be seen in the great hall.  Originally owned by bishops and Earls Eltham Palace became a centre for the royal courts and reached the height of its trajectory during Edward IV's reign in the second half of the 15th century, and culminated with the creation of the great hall. After a slow decline in popularity during Henry VIII's reign the continued lapse in interest saw the once magnificent palace fall into a dilapidated state by the 1650s.Sir Stephen and Lady Courtauld acquired the lease on the ruinous Eltham Palace in 1933, and began the transformation of the now ruined but originally important medieval royal residence into the stunning red brick and stone Art Deco palace which took inspiration from Hampton court, and sympathetically incorporates the meticulously restored Medieval Great Hall that was built by Edward IV, ensuring its survival for generations to come.   Condition Report: Falcon and fetterlock brooch: One pink tourmaline deficient Evidence of previous alteration to top of the hold hoop and to the reverse, possibly from the removal of a twin prong fitting, the screw in fitting has been later soldered to the back of the falcon setting, however this alteration is not visible to the front Some scratches to gold Cartier signature is clear No hallmarks and gold remains untestedRose en soleil brooch: Some nicks to citrine A few nicks to the backs of the kite shaped stones Some scuffing and scratches There is traces of lead solder to the back of the citrine setting, however this is not visible to the front Gold is unmarked and remains untested, the rose is not signedClasps in good condition, safety chains providedCondition Report Disclaimer
