The rifle is accompanied by an L42 chest with interior label dated 1971, inside is a sling, cleaning kit, L42 No.32 tool, and a MkII S four drawer telescope by H.B.M Co. in leather case. The rifle was bought as a barreled action with scope from Weller and Dufty auctions. The chest measures 31cm x 126cm. The rifle: The bore is in good order showing a small amount of wear from use in the first part of the barrel but a crisp bore towards the muzzle. There is no sign of pitting or damage. The crown is in good shape with only the slightest bit of corrosion that can be seen when studying through a magnifying glass. The action works correctly with a strong spring. the headspace is not known. The black paint finish is worn around the action and sight protectors. The woodwork was added by the Vendor, the origin of the woodwork is not known. Apart from a numberal 'I' to the forend and some faint traces of marks on the underside of the wrist, the woodwork is devoid of stamps. The brass butt plate is ill fitting, there is a drill mark above the top screw, see the additional image uploaded. There are no splits or repairs to the woodwork. The Scope: The scope presents a clear picture and adjusts for windage and elevation. The horizontal crosshair looks slightly loose or distorted, it is not dead straight in line. There is very slight clouding that can be seen when looking in at each lens however this does not appear to affect picture quality when sighting through. The enamel finish is worn and there is minor corrosion on the steel mounts. The elevation dial is stamped with a letter 'M' presumably for metres. See the additional images uploaded. The case. The wood box is structurally sound and useable. It has had some small working repairs as evidenced by the differing screw heads. There are also some vacant holes to the underside of the case from old screw heads. There are some chips and small losses to the pine cross struts. The paint finish shows signs of wear and use.
