Stanley Instruments - An early 20th century circa 1930s brass surveyor's theodolite / level by Stanley, Holborn, London. The level having a spirit level to the top, brass shaft raised on three thumb screws for correction. Comes with original wooden case. Makers stamp to the side. Case measures 28cm x 11cm x 15cm.
A mid-19th century brass theodolite by Troughton & Sims of London, the telescope with rack and pinion focusing, mounted on two brackets above half circle of degrees, on staff head mount with compass, h.23cm, in fitted mahogany case (case distressed).Note; the firm Troughton & Sims was established in 1826 when the renowned instrument maker Edward Troughton (1753-1835) partnered with William Sims (1793-1860). The business continued to produce precise surveying and navigational instruments throughout the 19th century, including telescopes, theodolites and surveyor's levels.
