Ein Halfter und ein Schweifriemen, jeweils mit eisernen, en suite silberdekorierten Beschlägen. Stellenweise etwas ergänzt und leicht überarbeitet, leichte Alters- und Gebrauchsspuren. Property of a distinguished Gentleman Gelupka School (Tibet) Late 18th Century (?) A Thangka depicting Buddha Amitayus, the Buddha of Endless Life Pigment on linen (?) Buddha Amitayus is flanked by Bodhisattvas Avalokiteshvara and Vajrapani. The style is typical for Central Tibet and the Gelukpa School. The two teachers at the top appear to represent the Sakya and Geluk schools, which makes it likely that it has been commissioned in a private context and the inscription at the bottom appears to be a dedication. In the bottom corners are Ushnishavijaya, a long-life goddess, and a form of Penden/Palden Lhamo, a female protector. Dimensions: (Linen) 25 in. (H) x 16 in. (W) (Frame) 37 in. (H) x 24 in. (W)

Bronze with gilding Tibet 16th century Dimensions: Height 50 cm Wide 5 cm Depth 5 cmWeight: 531 grams The khatvanga is made of bronze, gold and copper, inlaid with coral and turquoise. It comprises a long wooden staff, decorated with repoussé and inlaid gilt bronze bands, and topped by a four pronged vajra (a Buddhist symbol sometimes referred to as a sceptre). Above the vajra is a vase of plenty, an auspicious symbol frequently seen in Asian art. Above this symbol are three heads in progressive states of decay that illustrate three stages of religious attainment in Tibetan Buddhism. The staff is topped with a lotus-bud finial. This configuration is standard for a khatvanga. D'Anville (Jean Baptiste Bourguignon), Carte la plus Generale et qui Comprend La Chine, La Tartarie Chinoise et le Tibet Dressée sur leas cartes Particulieres des RR PP Jesuites, Paris, 1734 - [37], large engraved map with contemporary outline colouring and some later enhancement, large decorative cartouche and mileage scale, good margins, 495 x 705 mmQTY: (1)NOTE:The Qing Emperor Kangxi commissioned Jesuit surveyors to chart his kingdom from 1708 to 1716. The resulting maps were published as the Kangxi Atlas (1718-19), and the information contained in its woodcut maps would not be superseded for well over a century.The French cartographer Jean-Baptiste Bourguignon D'Anville (1697-1782), acquired copies of the Kangxi maps and devised his own interpretations, first printed in Jean-Baptiste Du Halde's "Description Geographique historique...de l'Empire de la Chine et de la Tartarie Chinoise". The cartouche reflects this connection, showing Emperor Kangxi seated above the strapwork borders of the title, presiding over the surveying parties, where two Jesuit priests, with an armed mounted escort, are investigating a settlement, with its houses, sheep and cattle.

A RARE CABINET COLLECTION OF MINERALS CIRCA 1810-1860, including labels for some very important names such as Matthew Forster Heddle (1828-1897), Robert Allan (1806-1863) and Gustav Rose (1798-1873), Dr Edward Turner (1796-1837) and a Mr Stewart 1850. Approximately 64 specimens in total. Cabinets measure 91cm x 61cm There are twelve Victorian labels dating as early as 1826: 1. Calc Spar from the Cairnsmore lead mine in Galloway - Mr Stewart 1850 2. Hyalite from Dr Edward Turner (1796-1837) It is known the Edward Turner met and studied with Wilhelm Haidinger (1795-1871)3. Epidote Manganese from Sardinia 4. Aragonite from Bilina, Bohemia 5. Petalite from Uton in Sweden - Robert Allan 1806-1963 Scottish mineralogist. Went on expeditions with fellow mineralogist Wilhelm Haidinger (1795-1871) for which there is a label in the next lot.6. 'A new mineral discovered in 1850 upwards of 2800 feet down in the Sampson Mine. Analysis at Claustal...Very few specimens got at the time and none since' Verso 'Andreasberg, Harz' and clearly signed 'Heddle' at the bottom. This could possibly be a specimen collected by Scottish Mineralogist Matthew Forster Heddle himself (1828-1897)7. Yenite, Elba. To verso - Bought by 'Rentland'? 8. Heulandite in large and fine crystals, Iceland. Verso reads 'Exchanged with Rose in 18--, Valued at £1.1. This is most probably referring to Gustav Rose (1798-1873) German mineralogist and President of the German Geological Society from 1863-1873.9. Silver Antimony, Andreasberg, Harz. 10. Copper Nickel with Rammelsbergite, verso label reads reads 'Heddle'. Possibly collected by Matthew Forster Heddle.11. Rose coloured calc spas coloured by cobalt from Schneeberg (Austrian Alps). 12.
