WW2 Capt Eric Winkle Brown DFC AFC signed Grumman Martlet 802 sqn Biography Card. 7 x 5 inch limited edition Printed card with border, perfect for matting or use as bookplate. Brown flew almost every category of Royal Navy and Royal Air Force aircraft: glider, fighter, bomber, airliner, amphibian, flying boat and helicopter. During the Second World War, he flew many types of captured German, Italian, and Japanese aircraft, including new jet and rocket aircraft. He was a pioneer of jet technology into the postwar era. Eric Winkle Brown signed book WW2 RAF Ten Squadrons of Hurricanes book. Loose bookplates signed by Capt Eric Winkle Brown mentioned in the book. Captain Eric Melrose "Winkle" Brown, CBE, DSC, AFC, Hon FRAeS (21 January 1920 - 21 February 2016) was a British Royal Navy officer and test pilot who flew 487 types of aircraft, more than anyone else in history. Brown held the world record for the most aircraft carrier deck take-offs and landings performed (2,407 and 2,271 respectively) and achieved several "firsts" in naval aviation, including the first landings on an aircraft carrier of a twin-engined aircraft, an aircraft with a tricycle undercarriage, a jet aircraft, and a rotary-wing aircraft. The Book - For many years the importance and contribution of the Hawker Hurricane was eclipsed by the Spitfire but statistically the Hurricane was superior in the majority of cases. Thanks to Tommy Sopwith's initiative and gamble the Hurricane was ready at the outbreak of the Second World War and in service throughout. As this superbly researched book reveals by examining the roles, actions and personalities of ten Hurricane squadrons, this iconic aircraft was not only exceptionally robust but astonishingly versatile. We track its performance from the Battle of France and Britain through the Middle East, Italy and on to Burma. It excelled as day and night interceptor, intruder and importantly as a rocket firing tank buster. The Hurricane inspired great loyalty among its pilots and their colourful personalities and thrilling experiences make this splendid book an informative and entertaining read. Good condition. WW2 ace Capt Eric Winkle Brown DSO DFC signed hardback Book Duels in the Sky. WW2 Capt Eric Winkle Brown DFC AFC signed scarce loose Hawker Typhoon Royal Aircraft Establishment Biography Card. 7 x 5 inch special edition Printed card with border. This is a classic book by Britain's best test pilot and the man who has flown more types of aircraft than any other. The book briefly tells the story of naval aviation in WWII- there is not much new in this part, but the information holds the narrative together nicely. There are black and white illustrations which are satisfactory, but this is clearly not a modern book. The book is worth buying for two reasons- one is that aircraft are compared in a combat scenario in its historical setting rather than a simplistic "top trumps" approach. The other is that Captain Brown often flew the planes and when he says that a Corsair is no match for a FW190 (you would not think so from the performance statistics) he can add "I have flown both aircraft many times". The book is brief, and I read it in a couple of hours. Some readers will not agree with Captain Brown's views (and he has not much to say about the mighty P-47 Thunderbolt) but readers with sufficient expertise to argue will still find much to educate and enjoy. There are some minor technical errors in the book and Captain Brown seems more impressed by an eight-machine gun armament than modern authors. The book (first published in 1988) is now dated- modern texts often have better presented data and this book is thin on graphs and performance envelopes etc. The book also predates the high-fidelity combat flight simulations that are available for the enthusiast. Brown's review of these would a have been a revelation! A reader needs at least some familiarity with aircraft to get the most out of the book otherwise they will find some terms used baffling. Apart from these quibbles, the book was just a joy. Good condition. All autographs come with a Certificate of Authenticity. We combine postage on multiple winning lots and can ship worldwide. KAMIL LHOTAK (Czech / Bohemian 1912 - 1990) - Tricycle | 1957 | technique: etching on paper | 278 x 325 mm | signature: bottom right | note: Author's print. In the inventory of the works of Libor Steffek G 273 | framed under glass | Lot description | This graphic by Kamil Lhotak from 1957 presents a scene with a characteristic motif of the artist's work - fascination with technology and the world of modern transport. Lhotak, as a prominent representative of post-war Czech fine art, often depicted machines, motorcycles, airplanes and other symbols of progress that connect the industrial and romantic worlds. The composition of this work impresses with its simplicity and calm atmosphere, which is supported by a subtle figurative element in the background. The "Tricycle" graphic is a nostalgic look at a time when technology was still seen as fascinating and inspiring. | condition report*In case of missing photos, please feel free to contact us.

Registration No: Unregistered Frame No: AB1T 6725 MOT: ExemptSubject to a complete build over many years by a respected Vespa collectorOffered in running conditionAn extremely rare early Ape complete with Vespa 98 style forkLess than a handful of Calessino evocations are known to be in the UK making this a very rare vehicle indeedIntroduced two years after the Vespa scooter, Piaggio’s Ape (Italian for “Bee”) was created primarily to carry goods. The Ape could be configured to meet a wide range of commercial needs thanks to its extremely flexible tricycle configuration, allowing it to serve as a miniature truck or van. Piaggio had repurposed proven Vespa mechanics to create what would become an immensely successful workhorse and are considered equally as iconic. The Ape is still produced today. The Ape ‘Giardinetta’ was launched in spring 1948 as a people transporter with a rear bench seat that allowed the transport of two passengers. The vehicle was offered with a retractable wide hood that in case of rain or scorching sun would offer shelter. The factory painted the Giardinettas in the same metallic green colour used for Vespa scooters. The elegant coach-built bodies were made by specialised suppliers located in the Lombardy region of northern Italy and final assembly was done in the Piaggio plant in Pontedera. The Italian versions were closed on the sides with a little door beside the driver for access. In 1952 The Giardinetta was renamed the ‘Calessino’ which was upgraded to 150cc for more power. The Calessino became even more famous in 1957 thanks to its appearance in the movie ‘Holiday in Ischia’. This 1953 Calessino is based on an Ape chassis and still retains the Vespa 98 style fork assembly. There are very few survivors of these given the hard work that most of them had to do and the fact that the fabric hoods and wooden bodies are susceptible to the ravages of time. The rear coachwork was sourced from Italy to the highest and correct specification as were the wheel arches. We are informed it runs and stops fine and only requires finishing to the wiring for the lights. Only for sale due to the illness of the current owner. There are no documents but given the clear chassis number and assistance available from the Veteran Vespa Club registering this for the road should be a formality. Less than a handful of Calessino evocations are known to be in the UK making this a very rare vehicle indeed.
