* RICHARD "TURNERAMON" TURNER ARCA (BRITISH 1930 - 2013), UNTITLED oil on canvas overall size 91cm x 121cm Unframed. Note: Richard Turner was noted post-modernist artist born in Derby England and was educated at Bemrose Grammar School. In 1960, he enrolled at the Derby College of Art where he won the J. Andrew Lloyd scholarship for Landscape, enabling him to study at the Royal College of Art in London, from 1963. There, he was tutored by Carol Weight and Sir Peter Blake. He graduated in 1966 with an Associate of the Royal College of Art Degree, as well as prizes in Life Drawing, Life Painting, and Landscape Painting. His work was much admired by his contemporaries and his tutors. For the next two years, Turner was a lecturer at the Guildford School of Art; working on environmental installation projects with Australian artist Tony Underhill. He was introduced to etching by Peter Olley and Norman Ackroyd. In 1968, he was employed as an epigraphic artist and photographer by the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago. For five years, he was based at Chicago House in Luxor, Egypt making facsimile drawings of the reliefs on the walls of the Temple of Khonsu, Karnak and Medenet Habu, adjacent to the Valley of the Queens. In 1973, Turner returned to England, lecturing at Salisbury College of Art for three years, before being re-employed in Egypt by the University of Chicago, for a further four years. During this time he made full-scale tracings of all columns in the Great Hypostyle Hall of Luxor Temple. In 1980 he moved to the USA; built a split-level chalet-style house in Big Bear, California, and ran his own gallery, named Minnelusa Gallery, on the shores of Big Bear Lake. He also worked as a graphic designer with Treasure Chest Advertising, based in Los Angeles. Four years later, Turner returned to the United Kingdom, and briefly lived in Edinburgh before moving south for five years. He returned to Scotland in 1989, and ran a successful "art holiday" home business from Park House in Kirkcudbright, as well as lecturing part-time in various colleges and schools. In 1993, Turner met HM The Queen and Prince Philip, at the opening of Tolbooth Art Centre in Kirkcudbright. Prince Philip commented on Turner's work saying it looked "refreshingly different". Turner exhibited widely throughout his career including multiple solo shows in London, Manchester, San Francisco, Palm Springs, San Bernardino, Los Angeles, Paris, Cairo, Luxor, Kirkcudbright and around the UK.

He works in many disciplines including drawing, photography, painting, sculpture, animation and music. The variety of projects he is involved with are multi-faceted ranging from the video for Blur’s ‘Good Song’ to ‘Kingsley’ Shrigley’s mascot for the Scottish football team Partick Thistle to ‘Really Good’ a sculpture of a bronze fist with upraised, out of proportion thumb which he created for the Fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square. Shrigley was created an O.B.E. in 2020 for services to the visual arts. Recent notable exhibitions include those in Glasgow, Germany and Sweden and he was nominated for the Turner Prize in 2013. His work is held in a number of important public collections including the National Galleries of Scotland and Tate.

CHARLES JAMES FOX A large Turner dry-bodied stoneware jug, c.1809, printed in brown and decorated in colours with a named portrait inscribed with four lines of verse, the reverse with an allegory of Britannia holding aloft the cap of Liberty, a worn Sheffield plate mount to the rim stamped 'Tho. Law & Co', impressed Turner mark, 241mm. Provenance: British Political Commemoratives: 1741 to 1991 Collection, sold by Historical & Collectable, 12th September 1999, lot 516C.
16th OCTOBER 1834: PARLIAMENT FIRE A small octagonal pearlware nursery plate, c.1834, the well printed in brown with boats on the Thames in front of the burning Houses of Parliament, titled above and below, the rim moulded with husk swags and stylized flowerheads, 14cm. The use of tally sticks as a most effective and incorruptible method of recording repayment of debt ceased in 1826. On Thursday 16th October 1834, instructions were given that the two remaining cart loads of now redundant split hazel sticks be burnt in the two underfloor stoves beneath the House of Lords. With the job concluded, the workmen retired by 5 o'clock but an hour later the Palace of Westminster was an inferno; the spectacle being recorded by Turner and other artists. Westminster Hall was saved thanks to the heroic efforts of firefighters and a change in wind direction.
A VIOLIN, SCHOOL OF VUILLAUME, the two piece sycamore back with double purfling and scroll design top and bottom, pine table, back 14 1/2", overall length 23 5/8", together with two Dodd bows, both with ebony frogs and mother of pearl eyes, one with silvered wire grip, both impressed "DODD", 29" long, and vellum provenance dated 1913, with sepia photographs of the violin by John Ellis who purchased it in 1879 from Prof. John Booth of Burnley and played by Mr Compton in the Halle orchestra, with a selection of ephemera, in a red velvet lined black coffin case (Illustrated) (Est. plus 21% premium inc. VAT)Only one turner present. Splits to table. No label. Drilled hole to base of ribs. It has been suggested that it may be by a contempory of Vuillaume, possibly French, but maybe German?
