An extensive German WWI & WWII military archive related to an Otto Machledt, (born 1890 Dorston, Germany) to include WWI photographic albums of trenches, scenes within tents, bars, etc., German soldiers and officers in uniform, relating to the 364 regiment, a book on the regiment published 1937 (Otto Machledt is mentioned), with accompanying maps etc. diaries and sketches from Mr Machledt's time whilst a prisoner of war in Oswestry Britain, and two extensive folders of diary notes relating to his time during WWII in Norway, various photographs, ephemera, etc. Otto Machledt volunteered for one year's military training which finished 25th July 1914, then he joined the army during the same year, and was posted to the trenches in France, August 1915 he was made up to the rank of sergeant in the 364 regiment. He received his first iron cross for bravery 1916, and his second 1918, plus the silver medal for being wounded three times. He was captured by the British in France and spent 14 months as a prisoner of war. During WWII he spent most of his time in Norway but was captured by Russian troops and held as a prisoner of war.

Original vintage World War Two propaganda poster map published in Illustrierter Beobachter, Sondernummer / Illustrated Observer, Special Edition, the cover features an image titled Englands Schuld / Englands Shame, depicting a British soldier in a military uniform with a whip smoking a pipe on the chair carried by the African, Asian and Middle Eastern slaves in chains who carry him, with various maps - North Sea Theatre of War; a map of the world marking protectorates and colonies of Germany, England, Poland and France; with a foldout of a large British Isles map on the reverse. Following the exhibition Bone immediately began making copies in enamel, the earliest recorded being dated November 1815. The Prince Regent evidently found the portrait most pleasing, and in the ensuing years gave away numerous copies as presents, leading to it becoming one of the iconic images of him. The present work, dated 1826, was painted eleven years after Henry Bone's first work. For other examples in the Royal collection see R. Walker, Miniatures in the Collection of Her Majesty the Queen,, 1992, nos.757-765.George was the eldest son of George III and Queen Charlotte. In 1811, George became regent after his father was declared insane and king in 1820. Throughout his adult life, George was an important artistic patron, acquiring an impressive collection of art.
