A Mongo citizen costume from the production of the Sci-Fi Action and Adventure film Flash Gordon (Universal Pictures, 1980). In the film, the titular "Flash" (Sam J. Jones) faces off against "Ming the Merciless" (Max Von Sydow) and unites various factions on the planet Mongo to overthrow the evil dictator.The costume consists of a tunic and pants made of lime green velvet material lined with batting to give it volume. The garments feature intricate metallic embellishments throughout, including braided gold-tone trim and green fake gems. The tunic features stiff epaulets in the Orientalist style of Ming's costuming and that of his underlings. There is a piece of tape affixed to the interior that reads "Man / Type B / 8" with "MB / 8" written directly on the garment just beside it.Garments of this type can be as seen worn by Mongo citizens as they watch Flash tussle with Ming's guards to save Dale (Melody Anderson).
