The firm first made multi-complication watches with repeaters in the late 19th Century, and has fine tuned its skills ever since. The 'Patrimony Grand Complication' was launched at SIHH in 2007, and features minute repeating, perpetual calendar, and tourbillon functions. The 44mm platinum case houses the Cal.2755 movement which features an astonishing 602 parts. At the time of production, this was the most complicated watch that Vacheron Constantin produced. The attention to detail is perfectly exemplified in the minute repeating function which includes a centripetal speed regulator that eliminates the noise interference normally experienced with a pallet system. The manufacturer records the sounds of every minute repeater that leaves production in order to maintain service accuracy down the line. This ultra-desirable watch is truly a feather in the cap of any collector of haute horology. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: YY Subject to CITES regulations when exporting items outside of the EU, see clause 13.For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
Vacheron Constantin. An exceptionally fine and very rare platinum manual wind minute repeating perpetual calendar wristwatch with moon phaseModel: PatrimonyReference: 30020Date: Circa 2005 Movement: 30-jewel Cal.1755 manual wind, adjusted to temperatures & 5 positions, two polished hammers striking on two gongs, No.927913Dial: Two-tone silvered, applied polished faceted baton hour markers, subsidiary dials at 3, 6, 9 and 12 for day, date, month, leap year indication and moon phase, polished pointed baton handsCase: Polished round, snap on exhibition back, repeat slide at 9, quick set buttons at 2, 4, 8 and 10, flared lugsStrap/Bracelet: Black Vacheron & Constantin alligator leather Buckle/Clasp: Signed platinum buckleSigned: Case, dial & movement Size: 36mm Accompaniments: Vacheron Constantin box, outer card, travel pouchFootnotes:What makes the Ref:30020 particularly fascinating is the direct correlation it bears with its ancestor, the Ref:4261. Produced in the first half of the last century, the 4261 remains one of the most coveted watches for vintage Vacheron collectors. In the appearance of the updated model, one can immediately recognise the tear drop lugs and thinness for a case that houses such a complex movement. The movement itself hearkens back to the cal.1755 which at the time was the thinnest minute repeating movement ever made at a whopping razor thin 3.28mm. In the 30020, the movement is put together using 'old school' construction techniques, where the ebauches are reconditioned old stock. 200 examples of this calibre were made, most of them cased in the very traditionally dialled Ref.30010 and the skeletonized 30030. 77, however, were reserved for this model, by upgrading the movement to a perpetual calendar and moon phase. This is the first time that the Vacheron Constantin created a minute repeating wristwatch with perpetual calendar and moon phase. Thus, in owning it, one wears a piece of history from one of the world's greatest watch manufacturers. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: YY Subject to CITES regulations when exporting items outside of the EU, see clause 13.For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

The result was an exceptionally light but sturdy watch – the current lot weighs just over 21 grams.
