A George V silver and enamel Cigarette Case, by Adie Brothers, hallmarked Birmingham, 1928, of hinged rectangular form, the whole front enamelled with depiction of a Wolfhound within naturalistic setting, the gilded interior with inscription 'One who possessed Beauty without Vanity, Strength without Insolence, Courage without Ferocity, and all the virtues of man without his vices.', 4¼in (10.5cm) high, some damage to enamel on bottom right corner.
An early 20th century French Art Deco silver, enamel, diamond compact vanity case. The compact being of rectangular envelope design with black enamel decoration, having a moulded red glass Egyptian Sphinx figural clasp set with rose cut diamonds. The compact opens to reveal a removable lipstick holder with push mechanism, with further covered compartment. Dates to circa 1920. French assay marks plus makers mark, number 87. Total weight 120g. Measures 7cms x 5cms.
A Gentleman's Travelling Grooming Case. The case of robust leather construction with a fitted interior of ivory, silver and cut-glass accessories and grooming implements, retailed and manufactured by JC Vickery, Regent Street London. The silver accessories are London hallmarked, dated 1919, mm Charles Henry Dumenil. Note: This dressing case originally belonged to the Petit Baronets of India. A notable and industrious family who established the first textile mills in India. It is believed to have belonged to the second Baronet Dinshaw Petit (1873-1933.) Parsi entrepreneur and second son of Sir Dinshaw Maneckji Petit (1823-1901), this vanity case has remained with the family until now.
