Steve Ferguson (American, B. 1946) "F-4 Phantom II" Signed lower left. Original Acrylic painting on Cold Press Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting was originally published on the Republic of the Marshall Islands 32c F-4 Phantom II stamp issued July 19, 1997. An exceptional plane, the F-4 is known for its speed and versatility. Tactical support, reconnaissance and electronic warfare are just some of the missions for which it is favored. Any target within range of the Phantom II's radar can be detected and destroyed without reliance on ground control -- a first for fighter aircraft that was put to great use during the Vietnam War. OLDS ROBIN: (1922-2007) American fighter pilot, a 'triple ace' with a combined total of 17 victories in World War II and the Vietnam War. Selection of nine signed printed images by Olds, each neatly removed from books or magazines, of varying sizes (largest 8 x 11), most of the images either depicting him in his flying gear or alongside various aircraft including a P-51 Mustang Scat VII, also including a magazine reproduction of Robert Taylor's painting entitled Phantom Strike depicting Olds flying his F-4 Phantom immediately after the attack on the steel mills at Thai Nguyen in North Vietnam on 30th March 1967. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting was originally published on the Republic of the Marshall Islands 32c F-105 Thunderchief stamp issued July 19, 1997. Entering service in the late 1950s, the F-105 Thunderchief or "Thud" was successfully employed during the Vietnam War. Sawada, Kyoichi -- Family escaping bombing in Vietnam. 1965. Vintage gelatin silver press print. 20,5 x 25,5 cm. United Press International agency stamp and typed press text label cutting affixed to the verso.The Japanese photographer Kyoichi Sawada worked for United Press International and received the 1966 Pulitzer Prize for Photography for his combat photography of the Vietnam War during 1965. Two of his photographs were selected as "World Press Photo of the Year" in 1965 and 1966. This image, showing a Vietnamese mother and her children wading across a river to escape a bombing of their village, won the award in 1965. Sawada died in 1970 while on assignment in Cambodia. – A few light handling marks, otherwise in very good condition.
