It quickly gained favour among the Pan-Am executives and the business jet-set community as a whole.Offered continuously since its introduction with relatively little modification it is perhaps, along with the Submariner, the most classic Rolex 'tool' watch made. The reference 1675 began production 80 years ago in 1960. This was the first GMT Master reference to feature protective crown guards as well as the smaller triangular tip on the second hour hand. The current example features a Pepsi bezel that over time has aged to an amazing vibrant pink thus earning the nickname of 'Fuchsia'. The varying colours that vintage Rolexs turn demonstrates an interesting point in Rolex history where they were experimenting with different suppliers and materials to create the most desirable finishes. The different aging nature of varying materials now means 60 years later vintage bezels and dials are constantly providing fascination. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Only about twenty examples of this proprietary design were ever manufactured with the last first generation triple-bridge tourbillon made in 1911.Fast forward over half a century and in 1981 Girard-Perregaux re-introduced the movement for a Limited Edition of twenty pocket watches. Ten years later, to celebrate their 200th anniversary, the manufacture again launched the movement but this time housed in a wristwatch. In order to fit, Girard Perregaux miniaturized the movement and re-positioned the triple bridge tourbillon from the back of the watch to the front. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: YY Subject to CITES regulations when exporting items outside of the EU, see clause 13.For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
Cartier. A very fine and exceptionally rare iteration of the 'Pebble' manual wind wristwatch from the London workshopsModel: Pebble 'Turtle'Date: London Hallmark for 1975Movement: Jewelled Cal.P383 manual wind, glucydur balance, No.2058962Dial: Cream diamond form, black Roman numerals conforming to shape of dial, black inner minute track, blued steel sword handsCase: Polished round, unusual small 'turtle feet' lugs, diamond form aperture for dial, back secured by 4 screws, cabochon set crown, inside case back stamped JC, stamped 9972Strap/Bracelet: Black faux crocodile leather Buckle/Clasp: 18K gold folding clasp, numbered 1644 and stamped Jacques Cartier, London Hallmark for 1971Signed: Dial signed Cartier, movement signed Jaeger-LeCoultre, case stamped for Jacques CartierSize: 36mmFootnotes:Cartier started to produce wristwatches in their London workshops in the 1960s at the absolute height of the 'swinging sixties' when London's influence and creativity was reverberating around the world. At this time, under the oversight of Jean-Jacques Cartier, Cartier created some of the most interesting and now sought after designs of the vintage watch world such as the Maxi Oval and the Crash. Each watch was hand crafted in the jewellery workshops before being handed to the watchmakers to make up into the finished piece. Each piece would then take approximately a week to produce ensuring their quality and by default their scarcity.During this period Cartier London designed the watch that bears the nickname of the 'Pebble' or in the United States the 'Baseball'. Using the simple juxtaposition of a square within a circle sums up the clear design definitions that create distinctive and original watch designs. By softening the square with rounded edges and flipping the point to twelve o'clock makes it distinctively Cartier. There are estimated 6 large size 'Pebbles' in existence with five in yellow gold and one in white gold with a black dial. Only one other is known to exist with the 'Turtle' lugs which is in the Cartier collection making this probably the only chance to acquire this particular design. It is worth mentioning the diminutive lugs on the overtly round form is echoed in the Ballon Bleu case design showing the DNA of Jean-Jacques Cartier and his influence in the last oeuvre from Cartier. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

The current lot is a great example of this having been owned by a professional deep sea saturation diver who wore it around the world in places such as Russia, India, Africa and Bermuda. Used extensively as a working watch in the North Sea oilfields, this watch along with its owner would dive to depths of up to 200 metres and survived periods of up to a month at a time confined in pressurised saturation diving chambers. These chambers were filled will heliox gas which would enable the men to launch and dive in a diving bell to the sea floor. One of the design features that made the Sea Dweller such a vital piece of equipment was how it handled during decompression post dive. Decompression can take up to 5 days and to avoid the watch from getting damaged Rolex designed the Sea Dweller 2000 to be the first production watch to employ a gas-escape valve on the band of the case. This one way valve automatically releases built up gas from inside the case when the diver rises from the deep sea environment without which the watch would be in danger of popping the seals. Interestingly, the plexi glass covering the dial did not feature the usual cyclops magnifying the date window as it adds a pressure point which would cause a weakness. The 'Double-Red' Sea-Dweller reference 1665 appeared in the Rolex catalogue from 1972 until 1975. The nickname refers to the two red printed lines on the dial setting it apart from the Single Red and Great White versions of the same model. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
