There he met Jimmy Jury where he sat ringside as a youngster and later became lifelong friends. He attended fights in London where he became friendly with other boxing enthusiasts from the Welsh Boxing Association. Both his and Jimmy Jury's collection grew that included letters from Freddie Mills who was a good friend to Jimmy when on the boxing booth circuit.
