Waterman Ideal 58 lever fill Red Ripple fountain pen. The Ripple pattern appears to have first launched in the Waterman Pen Prophet magazine in 1926. Waterman was competing with Sheaffer and Parker's celluloid made pens and first introduced the Ripple-Rubber model in an orange/red and black mixed pattern. Later Waterman made it in three additional colours, (Olive, Blue/Green and Rose). The 58 model was the largest size Ripple made and therefore prized by collectors. This pen appears to have seen very little use, the nib is missing tipping and likely was not used much because of that, therefore the pen has taken very little to wear. The Waterman Ideal 8 14 K nib has dark patina and the pen has bright colour with intense black in the Ripple. Length 6" and 7 5/8" posted, filling mechanism lever fill. Overall excellent condition with only the tipping missing from the nib, very light brassing to top edge of cap band, barrel imprint is light.
Waterman Ideal 0512 golf filled filigree fountain pen with pocket case. Early purple velvet lined snap case with 0512 fountain pen. Waterman Ideal 52V Blue/Green Ripple fountain pen. The Blue/Green Ripple was one of three later coloured Ripple models that Waterman introduced to compete with the marbled celluloid pens from the three other major American manufacturers of the time (Parker, Sheaffer and Wahl Eversharp). Waterman quickly made the switch to celluloid when they introduced the Patrician line, combined with the fragility of the coloured Ripples they are far less common today and are prized by collectors. The 52V is the smaller of two sizes produced by Waterman, this example with fine Waterman 2 Canada 14 K nib flexible nib and correct blue feed. Barrel is marked Waterman Fountain Pen Canada along with the patent dates and is stamped 52V on the butt end. Length 4 5/8†and 5 5/8†posted. Overall excellent condition with minor brassing to ball of clip, Ripple colour and imprints are bright. Pen was water tested and filled at time of listing.
