1959 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia 1200 Lowlight Transmission: manualMileage:99151The Volkswagen Karmann Ghia combined the chassis and mechanicals of the Type 1 Beetle, with styling by Italy's Carrozzeria Ghia and handbuilt bodywork by German coachbuilding house Karmann. More than 445,000 Karmann Ghia’s were produced in Germany over the cars production life, not including the Type 34 variant. This type 14 Karmann Ghia ‘lowlight’ is a stylish classic 2+2 coupé, offered in the subdued, yet appealing, hue of Agave Green with pale green vinyl and grey cloth interior. Powered by the numbers matching, 1.2 litre, flat-four, coupled to a four-speed manual gearbox. The original purchase invoice issued on 3rd June 1959 from Merryweather’s Volkswagen in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa is still with the vehicle. The car then remained in the same family until 2019 and has now been in the possession of its current UK based keeper for three years. Apart from a repaint, this car is in extremely original condition. The vendor believed 95% of the correct original nuts and bolts are still fitted to the car and states the body has never been removed from the chassis. The interior of the car, although it shows some discolouration from age and use, is mostly in great original condition. It has its original 1959 steering wheel, the vinyl is still taught on the cards and panels and the door pockets are as new having retained their elasticity and not stretched. The front carpets were replaced with charcoal versions however, the rear carpets and trunk area are still the original tan German square weave. Importantly, the heater channels which normally rust are all solid and the original 1200 engine runs beautifully and is very reliable. We are informed the car recently completed a 1,600km trip over ten days without a hiccup. Apart from basic service parts and oil changes the motor has not been changed or modified at all, however a recent in-depth overhaul of the suspension and braking system with a number of rubber seals having been replaced is detailed in the paperwork. The car maintains the original six-volt electrical system with generator and rides on a set of steel wheels with Volkswagen branded polished hub caps. The originality continues with original Sekurit glass, windscreen and all windows. Original spare key with very rare factory key tag, original Bilstein jack and tool roll with tools. The history file shows the original South African registration certificate, early road licenses up to 1961, various change of ownership documentation and original brochures and dealer pamphlets. This Volkswagen Karmann Ghia is a characterful classic coupé, featuring re-sprayed Agave Green paintwork and offered in solid, unmodified condition. Having been cherished by the same family until 2019, it has since been imported to the UK from South Africa, and would make a good, usable companion to its next owner, with the potential to become a particularly impressive example with some relatively minor cosmetic restoration work.*Interested parties should note that this vehicle is not currently sold with a V5 registration document. However, one has been applied for by the vendor with the DVLA and should arrive in due course.Guide Price £20,000 - £28,000

On offer from single ownership from new, this Auralis Blue Escort RS Cosworth is one of 104 ever produced and has covered just 47,500 miles. The Escort RS Cosworth was launched in 1992 as an 'homologation special' where its sole purpose was to incorporate parts that Ford planned to use in their rally cars to ensure success in International Rallying. The first 2,500 cars, the homologation special examples, were built up to May 1994 and notoriously suffered from turbo-lag, but the next 4,500 were improved, largely thanks to their smaller Garrett T25 Turbo. Two models were available, the Club-spec standard car and the all singing, all dancing Lux version. Power was increased by over 10% from the Sierra RS Cosworth, now making 227bhp, with performance unsurprisingly improved. In 1995, the RS Cosworth was treated to a mild facelift, receiving a new honeycomb grille, restyled bumpers, a more attractive fascia, and revised alloy wheels. Manufacture continued until early 1996 when emissions regulations forced it out of production. Like pretty much every RS Ford, it was a classic from the moment it arrived on the market. This particular example is a stunning, UK-supplied, right-hand drive car finished in Auralis Blue, one of just 104 to leave the factory in this colour, combined with the desirable Lux specification. That specification included an electric sunroof, electric heated mirrors, heated windscreen, heated washer jets, leather steering wheel, electric windows, carpeted door bins and the rare leather Recaro seats.Rolling off the production line as one of the final RS Cosworths ever produced with a build date of December 1995, the car was purchased new by our vendor's father who remains the sole registered keeper and having covered just 47,500 miles from new, this is a largely original example in one of the rarest colours available. Sitting as our vendor's pride and joy, this fabulous Cosworth has been maintained and cherished ever since its collection in 1996.The car was put into storage in 2018 having covered just 10,000 miles in the last 15 years, and has been treated to recent light recommissioning in 2022 including a full service, cam belt, refurbished calipers, new discs and pads, new/old stock alloy wheels and four new tyres. Recent servicing has been undertaken by Fiats in Colchester with bills and invoices on file.Rare to find such an untouched example, the only minor modifications that have been made to this car are a blow-off valve and a chipped ECU.Fresh to market from significant 26-year ownership, it has a valid MOT following the minor recommissioning and is accompanied by various invoices, Owners' Handbooks etc. With its Lux specification, low mileage, rare colour and single ownership, this stunning Cosworth ticks all the right boxes and is no doubt worthy of serious consideration by any collector of performance Fords. A superb early 'big turbo' example from long-term ownership with just two recorded owners and 40,656 miles from new.'Fast Fords' are our thing here at Silverstone Auctions. We love them, and their enthusiastic owners, and occasionally we get a chance to offer an icon from Ford's unique motorsport-based back catalogue. The Escort RS Cosworth was an 'homologation special' and its sole role was to incorporate parts that Ford planned to use in their rally cars to ensure success in international Rallying. That success duly followed between 1993 and 1998 in the World Rally Championship for Manufacturers, but the road cars were very rare with just 2,500 'homologation special' versions made, becoming known as 'big-turbo cars', all capable of 150mph and easily identified by the aptly named 'Whale Tail' rear spoiler. This stunning example is a UK-supplied, right-hand drive car finished in Mallard Green with the desirable Lux specification which included a tilt and slide sunroof, electric heated mirrors, heated front windscreen, heated washer jets, leather steering wheel, electric windows, period radio and graphic equaliser and unused spare wheel and jack. A Vodafone Cobra Cat 5 tracker is currently fitted and the annual subscription will need to be transferred to the car’s new owner.K344 MTC has been with its current private owner since 2013. Having covered just 40,656 miles from new, at the time of cataloguing, with just two recorded keepers, this ‘Big Turbo’ example is a potential ‘Best of Breed’ contender and we recommend any interested parties make the trip to Race Retro to see the car in the metal and let it speak for itself. It’s fresh to market and is accompanied by all the Ford manuals as originally supplied including the Owner’s Handbook, service records, the audio system operating guide, the spare key, previous MOTs, various invoices for servicing and maintenance and its original Bill of Sale. One for the serious Blue Oval enthusiast, this superb RS can be driven and enjoyed today yet, given its condition and rarity, may well turn out to be a very sensible investment and is worthy of serious consideration by any collector of performance Fords. A very capable touring machine, restored and enhanced to 'S' specification, maintained by XK specialists, and routinely driven to the Le Mans Classic. The XK150 was the final incarnation of the XK Series when it appeared in May 1957 and was offered as either a Fixed or Drop-Head Coupé. A more refined and capable machine than its predecessors, the 150 was noticeably different from earlier versions of the XK theme, with a higher scuttle and door line, whilst the radiator grille reverted to the thinner slats of the XK120 but was altogether wider. The bumpers were deeper and wrapped around, a curved windscreen replaced the divided one on the XK120 and 140, and much needed servo-assisted Dunlop disc brakes were fitted at each corner. However, the XK150 retained much of the mechanical layout of the 140, sharing the same 180bhp 3.4-litre DOHC Jaguar straight-six.The car offered for sale here was built on the 9th December 1959 as a UK-market, right-hand drive, 3.4-litre FHC fitted with the desirable manual overdrive transmission. It was supplied via Henlys Ltd. London to the dealership, Norton Thames Jaguar, and onwards to its first owner, a Mr D. Hewitt of London. As wasn’t uncommon with XK cars of this era, this example’s original engine was subsequently replaced by a more powerful 3.8-litre XK unit (ZA 3378-8). Sometime later, in 1985, the then owner commenced a full bare metal restoration but during this process sold the car, in early 1992, to the Carriage Company. They took on the restoration, taking a further 18 months to complete it, ensuring all necessary chassis work (including ball joints, track rod ends etc.) and perishable items were up to MOT standard, plus oven-painting the bodywork in ICI 2-pack Carmen Red and re-chroming parts as necessary. The interior too was completely renewed and retrimmed in black Connolly hide piped in red.Building on its bigger and more powerful 3.8-litre engine, the Carriage Company engineers carried out all relevant work to the powerplant to bring the XK up to factory ‘S’ specification. This included completely stripping the engine, regrinding the crankshaft, replacing the shells and engine seals, whilst also cleaning the pistons and fitting new rings. The ‘S’ specification included changing the head to a straight-port type with new valves, guides and a head overhaul with new gaskets. Triple 2.0” SU HD8 carburettors were then fitted with all the necessary linkages and throttle assemblies. All alloy parts were stripped, cleaned and polished. This enhanced engine was refitted, tested and tuned as near as possible to factory standard, generating an impressive 265bhp at 5,000rpm.Our vendor acquired the car some 18 years ago (in 2005), during which time it has further benefitted from extensive work by XK specialists (notably Marcus Barclay of Buckinghamshire) to keep it in tip-top condition. We understand that he has invested around £25,000 during his ownership on its upkeep and servicing, supported by paperwork and invoices in the car's history file. Improvements include bodywork maintenance, electronic ignition, a header tank, inertia seatbelts, an alternator, stainless-steel exhaust, a Kenlowe fan and halogen headlights. The car has featured at The Hurlingham Club's ‘Salon Privé’, regularly attended the Le Mans Classic and, in more recent times, the Spa Classic – trips its does with ease, with occupants travelling long distances in complete comfort and with style and reliability – the brief of any high-performance Jaguar sportscar. This venerable XK is in need of very little and starts and drives very well with good oil pressure and efficient cooling. It's offered to auction following a long and conscientious ownership period, where it was much-loved. Eminently driveable, this is a really lovely example of a timeless design with a desirable modern specification all tucked away inside the outstanding profile of this classic Jaguar roadster. Offered from The Twin Sparks Collection. One of the last of the line and in simply outstanding order, this Twin Cam has recently benefited from an £18,000 engine refresh in 2020.The MGA was announced on 26th September 1955 and officially launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show that year, replacing the visually aged MG TF, signifying a complete styling change-up from MG’s earlier sports car iterations. The TF could’ve been mistaken for a pre-war car to the untrained eye and the MGA was a welcome breath of fresh air. Over 100,000 units were built with production ending in 1962, with the vast majority of cars being exported, with just 5,869 home market cars. Clad in a sleek, aerodynamic body, benefiting from independent suspension and rack and pinion steering, the MGA proved an instant hit, selling 13,000 units in its first full year of production.Immensely popular though it was, the 'A' faced stiff competition from the larger-engined Triumph TR3 and Austin Healey 100/6. Coaxing more power from the standard MGA engine was becoming increasingly difficult, so development was concentrated on a twin-overhead-camshaft cylinder head for the B-Series block. Conceived at Cowley by BMC engineer Gerald Palmer and introduced in 1958, the new 1,588cc engine did not disappoint. It featured a special light alloy cross-flow cylinder head with hemispherical combustion chambers and carried twin overhead camshafts with valve operation via Coventry Climax-style inverted bucket tappets, producing an impressive 108bhp at 6,700rpm. Considerably faster than the standard MGA, the Twin Cam could comfortably exceed 110mph, and to cope with the increased performance Dunlop disc brakes were fitted all round and Dunlop centre-lock wheels were a distinctive addition. The only other visual identifier was the script 'Twin Cam' near the vent aside the bonnet. A high price and an unjustified reputation for unreliability discouraged sales and the model was dropped after just two years. Production totalled 2,111 cars, a mere 360 of which were sold on the home market, and today the Twin-Cam is rightfully one of the most sought-after of post-war MG sports cars. This example is a 1959 MGA Twin Cam which was originally sold as a Complete Knock Down (CKD) car to South Africa, as confirmed by the Heritage Certificate, but always a right-hand drive car, not a conversion that is so commonly seen. It was one of the last eleven cars produced, it thus has a 1600 body and the last and best version of the folding hood. Finished in Chariot Red with red trim, and specified with disc wheels, windscreen washer, twin horns, oil cooler and two fog lamps. It left South Africa in the mid-2000s and spent some time in Austria and Germany before returning to the UK around 2013.Without doubt, the most notable section in the car's history file is the engine rebuild by Peter Wood of Westwood Portway. The invoices and updates of the 9 month project are all handwritten and hugely detailed, reading like a fascinating novel. With Westwood being regarded as the guru of the MG Twin-Cam engine, perfection was as close to guaranteed as one could imagine, and with a cost exceeding £18,000 one would hope so! The engine rebuild was required as our vendor discovered a slight rattle from the engine soon after its purchase, and wanted the car to be perfect, so away it went for its mechanical freshen-up. Alongside the substantial bills are a series of photos documenting the engine rebuild throughout its time at Westwood, showing the level of attention paid to ensure it was just right. Additionally, there is some German paperwork and photos of its time there, a UK V5C, the car's Heritage Certificate, and a few old MOTs. There is also an invoice (£808) for a full wet flat and machine polish and chrome wax by SJD Classic Restorations in 2018 to get the MG looking its best before going into the Collection. As with all of the cars within The Twin Sparks Collection, this car is a spectacular example of a Twin-Cam Roadster that fires up instantly with that pleasing raspy engine note and performs impeccably. It is essentially two cars in one as below 3,500rpm you have a docile town car and above that and all the way to red line, the car comes ‘on cam’ and is a wildly elevated experience. Very sensibly guided for what is an immaculate example of a very late MGA Twin-Cam Roadster.SpecificationMake: MGModel: MGA TWIN CAMYear: 1960Chassis Number: YD22600Registration Number: 329 UYETransmission: ManualEngine Number: 16G/U/120Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 11269 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: BlackClick here for more details and images

1967 Triumph TR4A 2135cc convertible Original right hand drive home market car with optional overdrive gearbox Registration: WUR739F Chassis: CTC784950 Odometer: 22126 Transmission: Manual MOT: Exempt • One of the last 180 cars produced • MOT certificates dating back until 1976 • Subject of a bare metal respray an overall restoration • Kenlowe electric fan , oil cooler and electronic ignition • Comprehensive history file • Only 4 former keepers • First owner kept the car for 42 years Guide £24,000-£26,000 Outside The Triumph has been the subject of a professional bear metal respray in 2014 and present very well today. There is no evidence of corrosion anywhere on the car . The paintwork is of a high standard and all panels present very well . It is worth noting that there is a small area of paint crazing at the edge of the bonnet on the passenger side near the windscreen. The Chrome work is very good all over though the petrol filler cap is a little dull. The chrome wire wheels are excellent and the matching tyres have plenty of tread. The hood is without any issues as is the hood cover and there is a brand-new unopened tonneau cover in the boot. Inside The interior is in good order, the seats being correct for the car though there are two small tears on the driver’s seat and a small crack in the dashboard top roll on the passenger side. The wooden dashboard is very good as is the aftermarket Moto-Lita steering wheel. The carpets and door cards are in undamaged condition. The boot area is correctly trimmed and contains the spare wheel , jack and tools along with a fire extinguisher and foot pump. Mechanicals The engine fires from cold instantly and quickly settles down to a smooth idle. On a two mile test , the car performed very well with sharp brakes , precise steering , smooth gearchanges and firm suspension. The engine pulls very well and emits a lovely exhaust note. The TR benefits from an electric Kenlowe fan , oil cooler and an electronic ignition. History There is a comprehensive history file dating back until 1976 with bills and MOT certificates. It is always pleasing to handle a car that has been in long term ownership and this is exceptional being bought by Mr Woods of SW18 , London in 1967 who kept the car registered at the original address until he parted with it in 2009 . It is always reassuring when you can identify the scope of the works carried out during the restoration process and this file certainly does that in great detail. Our Opinion This is a truly delightful example of the highly desirable iteration of the venerable TR range, These IRS models are highly sought after and our example has been properly restored and being a original home market right hand drive car is the one to have. Long term ownership , professional and a documented restoration process ; this car really is one for the true enthusiast and collector , a very safe place to put your money and much more fun than some share certificates or and ISA.
1970 MG B Roadster 1798cc convertible Registration: YTJ400J Chassis: GHN5215162G Odometer: 62701 Transmission: Manual with overdrive MOT: Exempt . Offered on behalf of a deceased estate Outside This MGB suits the British racing green paintwork with the bodywork and panels nice and straight. It has been subject to a re-paint at some time in its life and over time the paint finish has a tarnished look to it in places along with some micro blistering. These imperfections maybe rectifiable by a professional paint correction process, although we would recommend serious bidders to come and inspect the paintwork before bidding. There is rust bubbling along the seams between the wings and the scuttle panel, the chrome work is generally good with some pitting to areas including the front and rear bumpers, and the aluminium windscreen surround also looks like it needs a good polish up. There is some surface rust on the n/s front wing near where the door meets the wing. The hood is in good condition with rips or tears although it has slightly discoloured from its original black and their is also a tonneau cover which looks in new condition. It sits on Mini light alloy wheels with matching fulda tyres all around that have many more miles left in them. Inside The black vinyl seats are in pretty good order as are the carpets and mats, and generally the interior presents pretty well. There is an original push button stereo coupled to some modern Sony speakers. As with all MGB's the cabin feels comfortable with everything falling to hand. Mechanicals The 1798cc engine fires into life with ease and runs very well breathing through twin SU carbs and although the looks of the twin exhaust tailpipes maybe offensive to some, the sound the sports exhaust system makes is wonderful. It drives well through all 4 gears and stops as its should. The car has an overdrive fitted which we haven't checked is operational. A quick service and this MGB will be ready to hit the road again this Spring. History Unfortunately we have no real history with the car other than the V5C and a few owners handbooks, the vendors trustee has mentioned that the car has had some works to the engine to increase performance, but unfortunately we cannot verify this. Our Opinion We totally get why MGB's are so popular and this one would be a great buy for someone looking to get their hands dirty whilst carrying out some minor works without having to take on a full on restoration. It could quite happily be used as is while being cosmetically improved along the way, and the sound from that unruly looking exhaust is to die for.
1947 Austin 8 1056cc four door saloon In current family ownership since 1998 and only 37000 recorded and credible miles Registration: MEV 39 Chassis: AS190418 Odometer: 37000 Transmission: Manual MOT: Exempt No Reserve .Original front seats in patinated brown leather .Service history dating back until 1954 and MOT certificates back until 1966 .Correct steel wheels .Sliding steel sunroof and opening windscreen .Rear window sun blind fitted .Original specification under the bonnet .Drivers’ handbook .Fitted with a Smiths rheostat heater .Body restoration to the sum of £4300 circa 1995 Outside This charming Austin 8 presents very well indeed and evidently the subject of an older restoration circa 1995. The body appears to be free of rust however there are some small stone chips on most panels and a few minor blemishes. The chrome work is serviceable but pitted in areas. The wheels are in good order with tyres with plenty of tread. Pleasingly both the opening windscreen and sliding steel sunroof are both operational. Inside The interior is in original specification which is quite rare with the exception of the rear seats which have been re-trimmed. The seats and door cards are without splits or tears and the headlining is undamaged. The carpets are good and the dashboard and steering wheel are without issue. Mechanicals The Austin whilst currently not running appears to be totally complete and as it was when put into storage. Obviously, it will require a level of recommissioning before returning to the road. History The history file dates back to a charming Energol service record folder that dates back to 1954 up until 1958. Documents on file indicate a body restoration amounting to circa £4300 whilst in the previous ownership around 1995.From insurance documents on file it would indicate that the Austin was still in use in 2019 and the service records would appear to support the recorded mileage of 37000. Our Opinion This is a rare opportunity to acquire and early post war Austin that is very close in specification to how it would have left the factory in Longbridge in 1947. The condition would indicate that a gentle recommissioning would return the car to the road and provide fabulous 1940s motoring for not a lot of outlay.
