Albert Philip Warner was born 17th May 1881 in Kingston, Portsmouth where his father Albert Warner was also a serving corporal in the Royal Marine Artillery. He joined the Royal Navy on the 31st December 1900 at the age of 19 and served over 18 years to his discharge "having been invalided at R N Hospital Haslar
