Lot 186

WW2 1944 London Underground double-royal POSTER MAP designed by H C Beck. An unusual wartime variant, half the usual size, which nonetheless manages to show the whole network, north to south, but the eastern and western extremities have to make do with arrows & boxes listing the destinations. Has a note advising that Aldwych station is closed ufn and that services on the West London line are suspended, both of which were wartime measures. A little age-darkened, edge-scuffs, one very small loss by East Putney, a little creasing in places. [1]

Lot 204

Pair of WW2 London Transport 1942 POSTERS from the 'They also serve' series by Fred Taylor (1875-1963) who designed posters for the Underground Group and LT from 1908-1946. Lot 221

Pair of 1946 London Transport POSTERS from the "Courtesy Aids Service" series comprising 'Service to the Public' and 'Questions require Answers'. Intended for staff noticeboards, these were part of a campaign to encourage staff to be helpful and polite to passengers in the immediate aftermath of WW2. They both still feature the pre-war bullseye logo. Size: 18.5" x 25" (47cm x 64cm). Short inward tears from the edges, a few edge-scuffs, previously folded but very reasonable overall. [2]

Lot 222

WW2 1944 London Underground double-royal POSTER MAP by H C Beck 'Underground Routes to and from the main-line stations'. Believed to have been produced largely for military personnel travelling during the build-up to D-Day. Below the Beck map is a colour-coded index showing travel details from each main-line station to the others with the colour-codes also shown at the Underground stations. A most uncommon issue. Small inward tears from the edges, a small loss at the top of the index, folds from where previously folded but generally very good. [1]

Lot 297

2 large trays of ARCHIVE PAPERWORK re London's transport from the late 1800s-1950s, mostly pre-WW2: early Underground railway agreements, Parliamentary acts, Ashfield papers, London Central/LGOC agreement, internal Underground papers, ad positions on Green Line Coaches, London Plan Working Party papers etc. Huge variety of material, all of historical interest.
