WW2 German Battle of France & Luftwaffe Photograph Album, interesting album which appears to have been collated by two different people. The album begins with a selection of snap shot images taken during the battle of France in 1940. Images of battle damage, civilians, tanks, graves, French colonial troops, etc. Album then covers Luftwaffe aircrew with good images of various aircraft, pilots and aircrew, crashed aircraft, etc. A couple of images appear to be later produced examples. Some pages in the album are loose. (240 images)

WW2 Period Italian Naval Officers Dress Sword, large gilt dish guard with raised relief resembling scales and crowned fouled anchor to the centre. Lion head pommel with crowned top, eagle head quillon. Brass locking catch to the reverse of the handle. Original officers dress knot / portopee attached. Complete with its leather and gilt brass mounted scabbard. Double edged blade etched with foliage, trophy of arms and Italian eagle. No makers or retailers details visible. Blade measures 75cms in length. Good example overall.

WW2 Fairbairn Sykes B2 2nd Pattern Commando Knife, good example with chequered one piece brass grip, oval cross guard stamped with B2 and broad arrow mark, stiletto type double edged blade measuring 16cms in length. Much of the original blueing remains to the blade. Housed in its original brown leather scabbard with blackened brass lower chape. Scabbard retains the original leather tabs but missing the top section of the scabbard. Good example overall.

Double edged stiletto type blade which measures 16cms in length. Housed in its original leather scabbard with blackened brass chape. Scabbard is complete with the original leather tabs and top section (no securing tape). Remains of the black finish to the grip.

Oval steel cross guard stamped B2 and with broad arrow mark. Double edged stiletto type blade measuring just over 16cms length. Housed in leather scabbard with brass lower chape. Scabbard missing lower tabs and securing tape from the top section. Brass dark toned.

Royal Artillery Order of the British Empire and Military Cross Medal Group of Seven, O.B.E. Military, George V Military Cross (M.C), 1914 star and bar, awarded to “2.LIEUT. H.L. PALMER. R.F.A.”, British War Medal and Victory Medals “CAPT. H.L. PALMER.” WW2 Defence Medal and 1939-45 British War Medal. The medals have been mounted into a glazed display frame. Residue on the reverse of the medals. Accompanying the medals are miniatures, medal ribbons and various Royal Artillery badges. The Military Cross appeared in the London Gazette, 11th March 1918, “For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On two occasions he succeeded in bringing up ammunition to his battery firing line in spite of a very heavy barrage of gas shells, and when the track leading to his battery was under heavy shell fire and blocked with traffic for a considerable time” Herbert Lionel Palmer, a native of Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire served in France from 1914 with the 8th Division Royal artillery and also served as a Major in the 2nd World War.

Medals are mounted for wear. Accompanied by WW2 Defence medal, 5x British Red Cross Society medals / badges and a selection of original paperwork and photographs. The award of the Military Medal appeared in the London Gazette 10th April 1918. The newspaper cutting accompanying the group states that “was awarded the medal for tending the wounded under shell fire in Palestine”. Percy Edwin Warriner was a native of Nottinghamshire. He served in the Royal Garrison Artillery during WW1 and in WW2 was an ARP warden at Gedling.

A Fine WW2 Sterling Bomber Bomb Aimers Distinguished Flying Cross (D.F.C) Medal and Log Book Group of Five awarded to Pilot Officer Ronald George Jackson RAF, who was awarded his DFC for a very eventful first Tour of operations between April 1943 an April 1944, being involved in bombing raids to targets such as Cologne, Hamburg, Nuremburg as well as a trip to Germany’s capital. On one raid to Turin, Italy, he guided his plane over the target no less than 6 times to make sure of precise aiming, each time he was blinded by searchlights and only by descending to low altitude on the final run were the bombs successfully released. As well as other missions, Jackson also flew three special operations missions to France. Distinguished Flying Cross (dated 1944) with the original Royal Mint case, 1939-45 Star, Aircrew Europe star, Defence medal and British War Medal, accompanied by the recipient’s South African Air Force Log Book, two photographs of the recipient, one being a portrait photograph and other documents relating to the recipient including two newspaper articles about the recipient winning his DFC, his RAF service book and copies of 149 squadron’s Operational Record Book. DFC- London Gazette: 27th June 1944; “This officer has completed numerous operational sorties as a bomb aimer has had remarkable success against heavily defended targets such as Cologne, Hamburg and Berlin. On one occasion when detailed to attack an objective in Turin area, P/O Jackson guided his aircraft over the target four times to make sure of precise aiming. Each time he was blinded by searchlights and only by descending to a low altitude on the fourth run was the bombs released successfully. This officer’s keenness and courage has been beyond Praise” Ronald George Jackson was born at Mannor Park in 1922, and enlisted as aircrew in 1941, after training in South Africa, he was commissioned in 1943. He joined 149 Squadron in March 1943, where he flew two Gardening operations and an operation to Rostock before transferring to a conversion unit in May. He re-joined the squadron in June 1943 where he went straight into operations including Dusseldorf and Le Creusot followed by ops to Gelsenkirchen and Cologne. Between July and August 1943 he flew various operations to targets such as Hamburg, Cologne and Nurenburg. Following these operations, his crew was detailed for an operation to Turin, Italy where he guided his plane over the target no less than 6 times to make sure of precise aiming, each time he was blinded by searchlights and only by descending to low altitude on the final run were the bombs successfully released. His plane returned on 3 engines and had to have their landing diverted. In September, he flew another four operations including Mannerheim and Hannover. Jackson’s sole mission for November 1943 was an operation to Berlin. He resumed flying duties in February 1944 with a ‘Special Operation’ to France followed by another one in march followed by an operation to Amiens. In April 1944, Jackson Flew five operations, three mining operations, a raid to Laon and finally his 31st and last operation of his tour, another Special operation to France. For his services during his tour and his actions on the raid to Turin, Jackson was awarded the DFC and later moved on to instruction duties.

Medals remain in good condition. Kenneth Robert Gascoyne was born in Mooi River, Natal, South Africa. He served with 51 S.A.A.F Regiment from May 1942 until September 1943. He also served in Algiers with 44th S.A.A.F from April 1944 until July 1945.

The medals are accompanied by two photographs of Private Hopper in uniform of the Dorsetshire regiment. Also accompanied by a 50 year anniversary medal of the award of the George Cross to the island of Malta.

A Fine WW2 Irish Guards, Guards Armoured Division Medal Group, Awarded to Donald Percy Lelliott, Who Served as a Tank Operator with the Irish Guards in the North West Europe Campaign, medal group consisting of a 1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star, British War medal and Defence medal. Accompanied with the recipient’s cloth shoulder titles, formation signs, cap badge and regimental tunic buttons. The lot also comes with 2 of the recipients army pay books, which indicates that he was a Tank operator. Also Various pocket manuals for Germany as well as regimental magazines and ephemera connected to various regimental association. The lot is also accompanied by two wooden photograph frames of the recipient in uniform.

WW2 Far East Prisoner of War Medal and Paperwork Grouping, relating to 4976475 Lance Corporal Leslie Ollerenshaw Sherwood Foresters. Medals consist of 1939-45 star, Pacific star and 1939-45 War medal, all un-named as issued. Accompanying the medals is an original wooden carves ID tag and various items of paperwork relating to his time in captivity at No4 POW Camp, Thailand. Lance Corporal Leslie Ollerenshaw was from Alfreton, Derbyshire. He served with the 1/5th (Derbyshire) battalion in France before being moved to the Far East. He would have been taken Prisoner of War by the Japanese when Singapore fell. He survived imprisonment by the Japanese, eventually returning home.

WW2 53rd (Welsh Division) 1st Battalion Ox & Bucks Light Infantry Battle Dress Combination, consisting of embroidered 53rd division formation sign with single red felt brigade bar and black cloth circle formation sign underneath. All mounted onto rectangular battle dress panel. Good uniform removed example. This combination is typical of that worn by the 1st Battalion Ox & Bucks during D-Day, where they served as part of the 71st Infantry Brigade, landing on Sword Beach on the 6th June 1944.

WW2 4th / 5th Battalion Kings Own Scottish Borders 52nd (Lowland) Infantry Division Battle Dress Combination, tartan cloth formation sign with printed shield formation sign of the 52nd (Lowland) Infantry division to the centre and yellow/grey arm of service stripe below. All mounted onto battle dress cloth panel. Uniform removed example. The 4th and 5th Battalions landed at Saint-Malo as part of the 155th Brigade in the 52nd (Lowland) Division in June 1940 for service with the British Expeditionary Force; after evacuation from Cherbourg later in the month they took part in Operation Infatuate in November 1944 and the subsequent capture of Bremen in April 1945.

WW2 1st Battalion Royal Welch Fusiliers / 2nd Infantry Division Battle Dress Combination, black on khaki embroidered RWF title above locally made 2nd Infantry division formation sign and three red felt bars to the bottom on khaki cloth. All mounted to battle dress panel. Residue to the reverse where it has been placed in a collectors album. Remains in good condition overall. The 1st Battalion, Royal Welch Fusiliers was a Regular Army unit and part of the 6th Infantry Brigade, assigned to the 2nd Infantry Division. It served in France in 1940 with the British Expeditionary Force. The battalion fought in the short but fierce battles in France and Belgium and was forced to retreat and be evacuated during the Dunkirk evacuation. After two years spent in the United Kingdom, the 1st RWF and the rest of 2nd Division were sent to British India to fight the Imperial Japanese Army.
