1990 Yamaha V-Max 1200 Registration Number:  G934 BFC Frame Number: JYA2WFC0XLA003262 Engine Number: 2WF0032662 Launched in 1985, the Yamaha V-Max 1200 was designed with straight-line performance in mind, created by Atsushi Ichijo under the leadership of Akira Araki, with contributions from American designers Ed Burke and John Reed. Originally available only in Japan and the U.S., it was considered too powerful for European markets, where handling was often prioritized over outright speed. It wasn’t officially imported into the UK until 1995, with a detuned 96 bhp version. At the heart of the full-power California Version we see here is a 1,198cc V4 engine producing 145 bhp, enhanced by Yamaha’s V-Boost system. This innovative intake design progressively opens butterfly valves between the cylinders from 5,750 rpm, reaching full activation at 8,000 rpm, significantly increasing power delivery. With a 150 mph top speed and a wet weight of 286 kg, it was one of the most powerful production motorcycles of its time. This 1990 Yamaha V-Max 1200 was manufactured on December 31, 1990, and imported from the USA to the UK in 1998. Now showing 31,000 miles, it remains in original, unmodified condition, having recently undergone a full service with receipts totaling nearly £700. A new MOT (valid until January 2026) accompanies its history file, which includes service records and previous MOTs. Totally standard and original condition. Fully serviced after being stood for some time. There is a small dent on the right exhaust end can, but otherwise, this example remains well-preserved. Offered at No Reserve to the highest bid on the day.

It’s all on you, the rider. And I love that." This example is in excellent condition, having been enjoyed and meticulously maintained by its current owner. 1976 Yamaha XT500  Registration Number: NCV 640R Frame Number: TBC - One of the first shipments to arrive in Europe - Two owners from new - Restored in current ownership Among Yamaha’s motorcycle lineup in 1976 was a model with a big single-cylinder engine: the XT500 dual-purpose machine. What grew out of this were the “engine brands” that now symbolize Yamaha. On the American West Coast in the 1970s, enduro riding that involved traversing the vast plains and deserts of the country over several hours was popular among young riders. Yamaha was only selling 2-stroke models at the time and there were clear calls from the market for a 4-stroke model. To answer this demand, Yamaha developed the enduro-specific TT500 model. Designed, developed and released alongside the TT500 was the XT500.  Customers wanted powerful torque for enduro competition and the torque of a large displacement single-cylinder engine was the key to deliver this. The XT500 found a particularly strong following in France and Italy as a machine for beach rallies and the desert rallies of West Africa. An XT500 rider won the first Paris-Dakar Rally in 1979 as well as the second, soon turning it into the rally machine of choice. The XT500 evolved into the 4-valved XT550, and later, the XT600 Ténéré equipped with a big 30-liter fuel tank. “Ténéré” refers to a desert in Niger and Chad that covers over 400,000 square kilometers. One of the earliest examples to be imported into Europe, this 1976 XT500 was bought new from dealer R.S. Damerell of St.Austell by a Mr.John Salter, who put the bike to good use for six years on MCC, ACTC, and TRF events. By then it was due for overhaul, so it was replaced by a Kawasaki, and retired to the garage. Some 38 years later with the bike untouched, John sadly passed on, and so in 2020 the XT found itself in new ownership, and restoration commenced.  The frame was cleaned, stripped and powder coated, the forks stripped and re-assembled with new seals, gaiters and steering head bearings. The wheels were treated to new bearings, spokes, brake shoes, tyres and tubes. New rims were later fitted, at the time the rear hub cush drive rubbers and centre bush were replaced with phosphor bronze items. The engine was dismantled, rebored, fitted with a new piston, conrod, big end and main bearings and timing chain. The gearbox was overhauled with double roller mainshaft bearing, and a new kickstart ratchet guide. A new Micron high level exhaust has been fitted, and the electrics overhauled with a modern H4 headlamp unit, front and rear LED bulbs, Electrex World electronic ignition and a 12 volt generator. The rusty fuel tank was cleaned and refinished, and internally lined with POR15 sealer. The mudguards (fitted in first ownership) are Preston Pettys, the originals are available along with the rear light, chain-guard and twin cable throttle. The saddle was recovered by Leightons. Built by our owner to use, the Yamaha is in tidy and mechanically sound but not concours condition. Since being rebuilt it’s been used on two trials and some road work, covering around 1,000 miles in total. Offended with original sales receipts, service manual, spares book and a Haynes manual, this is a genuine example of one of the classic enduro bikes of the 1970s.

Lot 69

1971 Yamaha R5 Registration Number: YJH 80K Frame Number: R5 026363 Engine Number: R5 026363 - UK-delivered example from long-term ownership - Fully restored to show condition - All correct Yamaha parts and fixings, new pistons, rebuilt crank The traditional British method of building a 350 - to sleeve down a 500 - usually resulted in an overweight sluggard with little more performance than a 250. The customary Japanese approach - over-boring a 250 - achieved exactly the opposite: a machine as light as its quarter-litre sibling yet with sufficient performance to see off most 500s. Yamaha's YR5 is a case in point: an over-bored YDS7, it weighed a little over 300lbs, produced 36bhp from its piston-ported two-stroke engine, and was good for around 100mph. The cycle parts bore close resemblance to the TD2 and TR3 racers', so good handling was assured. Produced between 1971 and 1973, the YR5 was superseded by the reed-valve induction RD350. This fabulous UK delivered motorbike was first registered in August 1971, to European specification with the correct rear light from new. In current ownership the Yamaha has been fully restored by a very well respected Japanese bike expert, with all original Japanese fixings, rebuilt motor with reground crank, rebored block and new pistons. Having invested a significant sum in the restoration, the bike has since been used for display purposes only. A really super 70s Japanese classic in wonderful condition.

1984 Yamaha RD YZR 500 Registration Number:  B858 AOJ Frame Number: 47X001407 Engine Number: 47X001407 - True riders machine, in need of minor cosmetic attention Inspired by Yamaha’s legendary YZR500 Grand Prix machine, the RD500 was a road-going masterpiece, designed to bring the thrill of 500cc two-stroke racing to the street. Powered by a 499cc V4 engine with Yamaha’s YPVS power valve system, it delivered exhilarating performance, razor-sharp handling, and a soundtrack that defined an era of high-performance two-strokes. This 1984 RD YZR 500 has been owned, ridden, and meticulously maintained by a well-known specialist and restorer, ensuring it has remained in outstanding mechanical order. A true rider’s machine, it’s been present at many classic bike meets, and always kept in fantastic order. Recently, the bike was dropped and now requires some minor cosmetic attention, which the current owner has not had time to address. An exceptional and highly sought-after example of Yamaha’s two-stroke icon.
